This quote has been on my mind a lot when I think of the state of the world today, specifically the horror that is happening to the people of Gaza.

My mother was born in Ramallah, in the West Bank, and my father in Middletown, OH, which makes me half Palestinian, half Midwestern. The polite, Midwest part of me had me almost shut down to all that's been going on, but my firey Middle Eastern half is waking up more and more with each day that passes, as more and more suffer even worse deaths of starvation, dehydration and exposure.

If these people are not given aid, safety, and ultimately justice, we set a dangerous precedent for how governments are allowed to deal out retribution against not just militants, but an entire population of civilians, including children. So many children with the faces of my niece, nephews, and my own son. My heart breaks even writing this. 💔

Loc braids and styles - I've really been enjoying giving my clients braids lately. In the first photo, you see my lovely client Nika with barrel braids that accentuate the transition from her natural grey to firey red.✨

Wash + detox - When is the last time someone else washed your hair? I love to help you get your cleanest locs ever. Based on your specific needs, I can customize your care with scalp scrubs or soothing CBD treatments, detox soaks, or even gentle conditioning to restore dry scratchy ends. Lots of lovely scalp massage is always part of the care I love to give.💖

Bang/ neck/ undercut trims - Many of us rock more than just our locs, and giving the brushable areas of our hair a little attention goes a long way in creating a tidy look.🌟

Christa has a beautiful curl pattern in her thick hair. This was her third loc journey, so she knew when we started that the shrinkage would make it hard to pull it all back into a pony tail, which was crucial for her work. We decided to add just a little extension hair to her locs during the installation to make that possible.

At the year and a half point, the extensions had served their purpose, and were ready to come out, revealing that beautiful curl pattern once again. Extensions aren't meant to last forever, but they provide extra length and bulk, as well as an anchor to the newly formed locs which can accelerate the locing process.

Another successful Halloween in the books! We do a huge display for the neighborhood, and nothing makes me happier than seeing all the joy it brings. My face hurts today from smiling so much! I've also included my son as the stabby cat, and my hard working hubby who makes the magic happen every year.

This is Echo, and I've had the privilege of doing her hair since she was around 10 years old. Now 16, she made the bold choice to take things darker, with just a few tiny bright pieces sprinkled randomly around her face. It suits her so well and I love the way it makes her blue eyes pop! ❤️

I told her how I made a similar decision to go deep brown just before my wedding (being the contrarian I am), and I loved it! These days I'm back to my "natural" red + flaming vivid combo, but when I do something like this, I always consider that a darker shade may lie in my future. 😉

I created Cody's locs the year before the pandemic from his short, thick, and very straight hair. I always say any type of hair will loc up, some just require a bit more effort than others, and this is definitely the case with his hair type. Maintenance was hard through COVID, with some anxiety factoring in, but I'm so happy to see that after 4 years, Cody's locs are as strong as ever, and he's doing great in life! ❤️

So I teased in my earlier post that I had some big news, and here it is! Today is my first day as a salon owner! I had the opportunity to purchase Imagine Salon, and reimagine it as Supernova Hair - a salon for cosmic travelers of all kinds!

We are a salon where we explore pure creativity and infinite possibilities, while celebrating our shared cosmic heritage. My inspiration comes from an enduring love of science fiction, particularly of the Star Trek variety, but really all stories that place humans in the stars give me a sense of hope.

My launch crew consists of .onecutaesthetic .yk, Megan Doherty, and Sheri O'Brien and their skills with your strands will send you into orbit. I couldn't have hand picked a better lineup!

Nika first came to see me about a year and a half ago. Her hair is how I picture mine growing out once my silver is strong enough. For now I gotta live through this amazing lady! ❤️

When we started our journey, she already had her red tips, but we had other pressing structural issues to address. Now that her locs are in a better place, this is our second color refresh, and this time I moved the red up significantly and did a proper two process color for maximum vibrancy. The result was definitely 🔥🔥🔥!

✨A journey's end ✨

Kim first came to me for locs over 3 years ago because her fine curly hair wanted to loc itself, and she was tired of dealing with it. Her hair took to it really well, and before we knew it, her locs matured and gained some real length. Then we started playing with color and created a purple and green color scheme that really popped! 💚💜

In the last few months, however, the weight of her hair was really causing problems with her back and neck, so she contacted me about removing her locs. I suggested that maybe a trim would help, but her mind was made up. We consulted about the shape of the cut she wanted, and I began the process by trimming the length of locs into the approximate shape we were trying to achieve. I try not to comb out more than I need to. After the comb out, I washed her twice with undo goo and did a Malibu crystal gel treatment to remove any residual build up.

After the thorough detox, her shape needed only a slight clean up, and her curls came popping back! It was great to see Kim unburdened and ready to start fresh on a new journey! ✨

I shared this cute family photo by my talented sister yesterday to my stories, and got such a great response, I wanted to put it on my feed to draw attention to an announcement.

As the price of literally everything has gone up, my prices are following suit. On December 1st, most of my prices will increase by about 5%. The one major change I've made is that I am switching my color services to an hourly rate. With the myriad of modern color techniques, breaking down services into different smaller categories no longer makes sense. I have charged hourly for my loc services for years, and find that the clarity of this metric creates more value for the client, while at the same time freeing myself as the stylist to do everything in my power to get the best result.

💜Deep purple💜

I started Michaila's dreads a few years ago, then last year I saw her with a shaved head on Instagram. I have to admit, I was kind of sad to see them go, but I was equally happy to hear from her when she was ready for this look.

She's really loving having short hair, so I cut her grown out hair into a textured pixie, and turned it this amazing shade of purple! It looks so cute and really pops with her beautiful tattoos.

Marvelous is the name of this lovely man who hails from Zimbabwe. He started his locs on his own, and I had the honor of being the first to work on them. Some were literally hanging on by thread, but luckily, his undercut was really grown out and I was able to use some of his own hair to mend the weak spots.

We talked about his immigrant journey, our young sons, and how he felt there was a lack of a good reggae night here in town. I told him he should start one, after all, he already has the perfect DJ name. ✨

Earth Day! ✌️🌎🤙

I'm lucky enough to be on Maui for this auspicious day, and today we took the most beautiful jungle hike to Twin Falls. We saw giant bamboo, intoxicatingly fragrant flowers, and many types of "houseplants" growing to gigantic proportions in their native habitat. 🌴

Earth day is every day for me. My bike ride to work, my garden, my compost pile; all of these are simple ways I can make a difference. The most important thing I do, however, is pass on my own love of nature to my son. This is my earth day legacy. 🌎

Hi everyone! After a long year of staying within a short driving distance of Eugene, my family and I were lucky enough to get on a plane and come all the way to Maui for some much needed vacation time.

Actually, luck had nothing to do with it. Over this past year, my clients, both new and long term, have been so supportive through the hard and necessary changes brought by 2020. Thanks to a new influx of business, combined with a new found dedication to savings (and nothing to spend it on), I have been able to land us here on this beautiful island. 🌴
