Today we're kicking off our annual Music Marathon Fundraiser! Meet Irene Huang: 1st prize winner in the 2023 YWCC High School category for her piece, “Deaf Pillows.” When asked about what she loves most about composition, she said, “…Getting to hear my pieces played by musicians for the first time, especially after hours of listening to the MIDI playback. Meet Sage Marshall: 3rd prize winner in the 2023 YWCC High School category for her piece, “Snow Lake.” When asked to tell us more about her winning piece, she said, “My family has a cottage that has been in the family for a number of years now. Meet Skye Neal: 2nd prize winner in the 2023 YWCC Middle School category for her piece, “Waltz in B-flat Major.” When asked what advice she would give to a new composer, she said, “Don’t be hypercritical of yourself. Instead, turn off your inner editor, let yourself write, and worry about editing later.
