🧜🏽‍♂️ As its name suggests, an hommage to the amphibious humanoid monster, or “Gill-Man,” from the 1954 cult classic horror film, “Creature from the Black Lagoon.” Created to evoke the paradise-like aquatic area of the Amazon that the Gill-man resides, “The Black Lagoon.” The blue, black, & green hues of this bar are reminiscent of the blue yet mirky waters & numerous aquatic plant species that make up “The Black Lagoon - a paradise from which no one has every returned. Like the sea-monster & its habitat which this bar is inspired by, The Creature from the Black Lagoon Bar is supernatural & otherwordly itself! 🖤 As its name suggests, this bar is inspired by & pays tribute to one of my all-time favorite writers, directors, producers, animators, & illustrators of fantastical, creative, gothic, & spooky creations: Tim Burton! I also like to think that in some ways, we are “woven from the same cloth,” & “of the same tribe,” in that we both attended the same alma mater: The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Tim Burton has created some of my favorite characters of all time, including Pee-Wee Herman, Edward Scissorhands, & of course - Beetlejuice! His zanny stylings & one-of-a-kind expressions achieved in his movies, drawings, & illustrations was the inspiration for this bar! The Burton Bar is built from the base up, starting w/ one of Tim Burton’s primary & ICONIC visual signatures: black & white stripes - found in all his films, from Beetlejuice’s famous fat pin-striped tuxedo, to set design elements & costumes in Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, & the Nightmare Before Christmas. Swirls & whirls of reds, greens, & dark purple top this bar (bringing to mind the many characters created by Tim Burton such as 1989 Batman’s “The Joker,” or the “sandworm” from Beetlejuice). Graced with a scent inspired by Tim Burton’s “Netherworld,” or “Land of the Dead,” from Beetlejuice...a deep yet playful scent that combines “underworldy” patchouli w/ “life-giving” & bright lime. Herbacious lavender serves to connect the two...🖤
