Our Story
Stockwell Elementary School opened its doors in 1971 as an open concept building in a traditional setting. During the first seven years the staff experimented with a variety of instructional methods. In 1978 the instructional methods changed. The building instruction was based on a more traditional approach with the primary remaining self-contained while grades four through six followed a departmental approach. The process was interrupted by the formation of middle schools in 1985.
Stockwell was then transformed into a kindergarten through fifth grade school. Instruction, however, remained primarily self-contained in kindergarten through third grade with departmentalization in grades four and five. Special education classes were limited to EH and MMH classes.
Now, Stockwell is an elementary school, kindergarten through fifth grade, with special education classes offered in many areas. It has a full day kindergarten program. Our enrollment is increasing, and is currently over 600 students.
Stockwell Elementary is proud of its diverse student body and students are encouraged each day to “See something good, say something good, and do something good.” STAR students are recognized each morning and at a monthly STAR parade. Stockwell Singers, Spell Bowl, Steppers, cheer, Math Bowl, girls basketball, boys basketball and girls volleyball are all offered at various times throughout the year for student participation. In addition, Stockwell houses the elementary English Language Learning Center. Students attending Stockwell will attend Plaza Park International Prep Academy for grades six through eight and then move on to Harrison High School.
