The Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex and the Limbic System! The main functions of the DPC are working memory, decision making and motor planning. The main tasks of the Limbic System are emotions, appetite and hormones. Studies show that depression is associated with decreased activity in the brain. TMS delivers pulses of energy into these targeted areas of the brain to increase exercise and reduce symptoms of depression. It also helps the brain manage emotions by stimulating nerve cells that do not function enough to support positive emotions! Thus, TMS can repair communication pathways between the two systems to create new POSITIVE neural pathways.
It may seem silly, but daily affirmations WORK! The traditional Metta meditation (or loving-kindness meditation) begins with expressions of self-care and compassion. To harness the power of these affirmations, find a comfortable
and quiet space where you can silently repeat this group of statements at least three times. Here is a good one from Sharon Salzberg, author of Loving Kindness:
May I be loved.
May I be safe.
May I be happy.
May I be at peace.
Happy Father's Day to all of the dad's out there today! We appreciate you!
True! Approximately 1/3 of depressed patients have TRD (Treatment Resistant Depression). TRD is a major depressive disorder in which a person's depression has not responded to at least two types of antidepressants.
Fortunately, research indicates that psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) may offer individuals and their loved ones a path forward from TRD: In 2019, the FDA approved esketamine â a ketamine-derived nasal spray â to address treatment-resistant depression specifically.
Happy hump day! Half-Way through the week! We got this!
When it comes to depression treatment, Spravato has been revolutionary.
Specifically used as a nasal spray to treat treatment-resistant depression, Spravato can begin to treat depressive symptoms within 24 hours. Plus, because itâs a more potent version of ketamine, it can be used at a lower dose and have fewer side effects.
If youâre struggling with your mental health, itâs never too late to seek help. We see you. We hear you. We've got you.
Monday mornings can be tricky....but remember! You only have to do Monday morning once a week, and Mondays are the best days for a fresh start. We wish you all a happy and fresh start to the week âşď¸
When you're depressed, neurotransmitters responsible for carrying emotional signals through the brain become inactive, as if they're clogged. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy is administered through a non-invasive, FDA-approved device placed on the head to stimulate the prefrontal cortex responsible for mood regulation. It may be in your head, but it's not your fault, and we can help!
We found Lucy helping herself to the massage chairs in the Spravato treatment room...We think she may be a little jealous of how comfy our patients always look. We'll let it slide this time; it is FRIYAY, after all!
Ever wonder what the heck we're talkin' about when we're talkin' brain chemicals? Here are some fun alternatives to get them going!
It can sound like a broken record, but it's true! Itâs ok if your journey is one year or 15 years long. Itâs ok to feel how you feel. You are not a bad mother, child or partner. You are a wonderful person doing the best you can do. As a society, we seem to have this preconceived notion that healing should ideally take place within a specific timeline, and we're here to tell you thatâs just not the case! So if you are healing, growing, and learning at your own pace, you are doing fine and can and will recover. Just follow whatever timeline your body and mind have in store for you!
Sometimes our clients throw us ice cream parties! Happy Tuesday yâall!
Saturday spotlight! Meet Jenna! Jenna outdresses and out smiles all of us (mostly) every day! She is the queen of organization, to-do lists, and iced coffee. Jenna loves getting some beach time in when she can, AND fun fact?! Jenna lived in Germany for the first ten years of her life. Sprechen zie deutsche, Jenna?! Come say hi!
Did you know that there's an FDA-approved nasal spray for people who have not successfully managed medication and therapy? Spravato is a simple, non-invasive treatment that can help improve mood, energy, and motivation
One of the biggest misconceptions we hear about TMS is people think it is "electric shock therapy..."
This could not be further from the truth.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a series of magnetic pulses that stimulate the neurons in the brain that often lay dormant from depression. It is non-invasive and has little to no risk or side effects. TMS helps treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD and more.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a procedure that uses a mild electrical current to cause a brief seizure. This treatment effectively treats severe mental health conditions, including depression, schizophrenia, and more.
We are happy to answer any of our TMS questions! Call us to schedule your free consultation with our TMS Coordinator, Marissa!

There's a significant stigma out there about mental health and many myths. One of those myths is that mental health issues can't affect you, but the truth is that almost all of us deal with mental health conditions in one way or another. Check out the facts below:
One in 5 American adults experienced a mental health condition in a given year
One in 6 young people have experienced a major depressive episode
One in 20 Americans have lived with a severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression
TMS doesn't just treat depression; it can help with your anxiety too!
We know anxiety can be a constant battle, but there is hope.
This iceberg is a powerful visual metaphor for the reality of anxiety - much of what we experience is "under the surface," hidden from view and misunderstood by others, and we know all about it. Ask us how we can help!
Happy International Day of Action for Women's Health to all our ladies!
"The first Call for Action, a multi-year campaign on preventing maternal mortality and morbidity, was an immediate success and achieved results on several levels; the first was that it provided womenâs grassroots organizations with greater access to information previously only available through specialized journals. Additionally, the campaign highlighted significant gaps in the research data on womenâs health, which resulted in more face-to-face meetings, seminars and research studies. Most importantly, participation in the internationally coordinated campaign brought the womenâs health movement closer at national and international levels, strengthening the movementâs impact. Concurrently, international bodies like the World Health Organisation, the Pan American Health Organisation and the World Bank took up the issue under the theme of âSafe Motherhood,â encouraging the investment of funds to improve services and sponsoring seminars, training, and research programs.
Since its inaugural launch in 1987, May 28th has been recognized as the International Day of Action for Womenâs Health by several governments, various international agencies and multiple civil society organizations worldwide."
We get this question a lot! So how do Ketamine and Spravato work? SPRAVATOÂŽ is a prescription medicine used along with an antidepressant taken by mouth to treat: Depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD)
with suicidal thoughts or actions. SPRAVATOÂŽ nasal spray works differently than other medications to target depressive symptoms. SPRAVATOÂŽ targets the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor.
Real talk: Ketamine can target not one but dozens of systems in the brain. One of the most critical systems is the glutamate system. Glutamate is what neurons in the brain use to communicate with one another. When people are depressed or experience stress or trauma, they start to lose connections between these neurons. When Ketamine is administered, some of these effects begin to reverse, and Ketamine can help regenerate those critical connections.
Pretty cool, right?!
If you've been treated for depression, but your symptoms haven't improved, you may have treatment-resistant depression. Taking an antidepressant or going to psychological counseling (psychotherapy) eases depression symptoms for most people. But with treatment-resistant depression, standard treatments aren't enough. They may not help much at all, or your symptoms may improve, only to keep coming back.
If this sounds like something you've been experiencing, Spravato or TMS treatments could be the solution for you, and we're happy to answer any questions you have; just give us a call!

More than 50 MILLION Americans struggle with mental illness. 1 in 5 of those people (ages 13-18) will develop a mental illness in their lifetime, and 50% of those young people will show signs of it before the age of 14. We're here to help make even a tiny dent in those numbers. Don't struggle quietly; we're here for you and for your loved ones.
Happy National Bee Day! See one buzzing around today? Thank them for making all that delicious honey, that is...and helping to heal the brain!
HOW?! Bumblebees have an average buzz frequency of 270 Hz, resonating with a C-sharp on a piano (just above middle C). The frequencies that bees emit resonate with organic tissues that promote healing. In humans, the brain also can entrain to these sounds for an overall calming effect.
Other fun facts:
Rich in vitamins and nutrients (buy local honey to help combat seasonal allergies!)
Antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory
Promotes cellular growth and regeneration (yay glowing skin!)
Natural antiseptic
