Straw For Dogs

This picture was so cute I HAD to share it. Straw For Dogs sent 5 houses to our friend and superhero Emily Stotts who is a huge resource for animals up North and PAWS of Nome president.

These houses were for her to use at her rescue in Nome to house dogs who could be outside when the inside space was full.

Earlier she posted the first group of puppies to use a house and yesterday she sent me the second group! LOOK AT THESE little furry faces, I just want to cuddle them!

These precious pups are welcomed in the good place, bringing us to Rescue # 149, and Mama is receiving a free spay at our Outpost Clinic!

Thank you so much to Lotto Alaska from all of us who are trying to make sure no dogs living outside in Alaska go without insulated dog houses and straw in this harsh environment.

Special thank you to David Lambert for recognizing Straw For Dogs mission as a worthy cause. You are helping us provide dog houses and straw to pets who would otherwise have inadequate shelter or no shelter at all.

This funding is earmarked for our "RIVER PROJECT" with Ruby Marine (who is donating all shipping)! A trailer to transport resources to wherever they are needed. AND to support our mission of sending insulated houses and straw to dogs in need all over Alaska.

We waited to post this until we had our Lotto Alaska stencil to add to our houses going up river. Well it finally arrived, and yesterday (7/13) we transported 20 house kits and bales of straw to Ruby Marine. Thankfully David Lambert loaned us his trailer, until we find one to purchase for Straw For Dogs. We were also fortunate enough to have 3 volunteers with trucks to help. Post on that to follow.

UPDATE ON OUR RIVER PROJECT!

We are starting to get some pictures in from the first batch of houses we sent out along the rivers. Thank you to Ruby Marine for shipping these houses out to the dogs who needed them.

This is an ongoing project, we will be sending more houses out all summer.

Just got back from Ruby Marine this morning. We were fortunate enough to see our Straw For Dogs houses loaded up and ready for the next run. We could only see 5 houses, but there are 11 going out on this trip.

Thank you to Matt Sweetsir and EVERYONE at Ruby Marine for helping us get houses out to dogs who need them. I feel like we have probably been a pain as we learn to navigate this new method of shipping.... but the people at Ruby have been nothing but gracious, generous, and kind to us.

This is how we spent our 3 day weekend! 2 trips to Ruby Marine to build doghouses and get them ready to load on the barge for the next trip up/down river. Building them at Ruby allowed us to transport more at one time (we need a bigger trailer).

15 more houses/straw/tie-outs ready to go to dogs who need them who live along the rivers. This makes 20 out on the barges so far!

This was sent to me by a friend. To REMIND ALL OF US to please walk your dogs on a leash, play with them, bring them inside, let them interact with people and other dogs. They NEED this from you. The longer they go without it the harder it will be for them to learn how to act. YOU are their whole world, take some time each day to love them. Them more give the more you get back. Please give them a life away from the chains.

Nick and our Board member/Marking Manager, Camilo set up a new house for cute little Gabby last weekend! This was one of the houses donated to us by the Yukon Koyukuk School District program in October! Slowly but surely we are getting houses to dogs living outside in Alaska.

Do we have any friends in Barrow that could help a dog house recipient pick up her house at NAC? I just got off the phone to verify she had received her house and she has no way to pick it up from NAC.

Does anyone have a truck who would be willing to help? The house is there and her dog Chucky is living outside with no house right now. (He is too big for his old house shown in the background).
