This ☝🏼☝🏼
Not to downplay the benefits of a massage, they are certainly beneficial and can work wonders.
But why?
The bigger question is, why do we have to “pay” for pelvic floor PT in the first place? Why isn’t it standard of care to refer and receive reimbursement for ?!

Maternal and women’s health matters. Health matters.
I hate my stomach. Yeah, I said that.
But, here’s the truth. I have diastasis. Almost 3 infrasternal, and 1 above and below my belly button. I’m 40 y’all. My stomach isn’t as snatched as it was at 25. Simple truth.
HOWEVER, here was my lift routine this week:
Back squat #120
Overhead press #37.5
Bench #60
And lots and lots of core, from all angles.
My weights are huge, but for ME they are-and that’s what matters. 3 years ago I didn’t even know how to bench, k? 😉
I don’t dome or cone, I don’t leak, and I don’t feel heaviness during or after my lifts. AND I HAVE 🤯
You can too…just talks the right training and a little less ❤️

These animations from blow my mind when thinking about the way the hips help move along delivery by transitioning from internal to external rotation.
It’s anatomy, folks!
Show up to your 6 week checkup to hear “you’re all set! Cleared for activity, just listen to your body”. 😳😬
Wouldn’t it be lovely if you knew what to expect during those first 6 weeks and what was worth mentioning to your doc? What you could BE TREATED FOR?!🤯
My symptom checklist does just that! Print before you deliver and keep track of during that early pp phase. Bring with you to your appointment and feel confident you are prepared ❤️

I think I can sum it all up 🤯
There’s so much info out there, it’s overwhelming. It’s too much to digest. It’s anxiety inducing.
In a nutshell, pregnancy prep boils down to this:
👶🏼mobility: of hips, pelvis, spine to optimize labor/delivery and manage changing posture to alleviate pain
👶🏼strength: to maintain, minimize symptoms and optimize postnatal recovery
👶🏼 motor control: to learn how your body works with special attention paid to the pelvic floor
That’s what it takes! Let’s not make it harder than it needs to be ❤️

Inability to empty your bladder all the way. 😫
Another unpleasant postpartum complaint.
What is it?
🚽Covert urinary retention is the inability to filling empty your bladder with residual urine remaining in the bladder after urination beyond 3 days postpartum
The mechanism(s) behind urinary retention are not completely understood. Common causes may include:
🚽 instrument assisted delivery
🚽 damage to nerves or muscles around the bladder within the pelvic floor
🚽 second degree perineal tear
🚽 edema
If the tips listed above don’t seem to be resolving the issue entirely, time to seek a ❤️

Yesterday, my ❤️ hurt.
Walked into an appointment and was met with tears 😔
A new mum who was angry. Sad. Frustrated. Overwhelmed. A shell of her former self (so she feels). 🥺
Her anger stemmed from feeling as if she was unprepared for her self. Looking in the mirror, she wasn’t who she once was. She wasn’t able to find time for herself, let alone complete simple tasks around the home.
Her entire world was different, as expected, but not as expected at the same time.
Why don’t we educate our more before birth?! Why aren’t we brutally honest about what looks like? Why don’t we monitor new mothers (all mothers) much more closely after childbirth?? 🤰🏼
The focus shifts almost entirely to the , fair, but mothers DESERVE care too. ❤️
January is hard. 😔
Deductibles reset. Out of pocket expenses sky rocket. 💸💸💸
Access to OON healthcare feels unattainable because of $$$. 💰👩⚕️
It shouldn’t. 😡🤬
Sooooo….dm me and let’s talk how we can make OON pelvic floor physical therapy work for you.
I DON’T want cost to be prohibitive of care.
Period. ❤️

What does this mean? 🤯
As your center of mass shifts and your pelvis widens, your body compensates with altered gait, changes in muscle tone, weakness and pain.
How can we “fix” this?
1. Start pelvic PT early and learn what exercises you can do to maintain stability and strength
2. Support yourself with external supports such as a proper chair while working, proper posture in standing, and good lifting mechanics
3. Avoid staying in one position for too long - movement!

Hemorrhoids 💩🚽
Did you know hemorrhoids and a**l fissures occur in about 40% of postpartum women? 😳
Hemorrhoids are classified as either internal or external, and are thrombosis of vascular structures or cushions in the a**l ca**l. 🩸
Internal hemorrhoids are typically painless and external can be more uncomfortable, due to the differing nerve supply to each area. 😟
During pregnancy 🤰🏼 the growing uterus increase abdominal pressure and mechanical pressure on the upper re**um, inferior vena cava, and portal vein which increases venous stasis. This results in decreased circulation to the internal a**l sphincter. Additionally, blood volume during pregnancy increases by 25-40%. All of these factors lead to dilation and venous stasis in the pelvis. 😫😬
As if that isn’t ENOUGH, progesterone also relaxes the walls of your veins making them prone to swelling.
