Our Story
The William J. Foreman Memorial Scholarship was first awarded in 2007 to honor the memory of Will Foreman, the 18-year-old beloved son of Louise and Mark Foreman who was tragically killed in an automobile accident on February 24, 2006. Will had just graduated from high school seven days before the fatal accident.
Will had a generous heart, a loving spirit and was drawn to helping those less fortunate than himself. He had faced personal adversity during his high school years but successfully overcame it to graduate and begin his college studies in computer science. This scholarship in Will's memory was founded to help other high school seniors who faced significant adversity during their high school experiences yet successfully overcame the challenges to graduate and now need financial assistance to attend college. The scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), who have overcome significant adversity to successfully graduate and need financial assistance to pursue higher education.
Selection Criteria: The William J. Foreman Memorial Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors from Fairfax County, Virginia Public Schools, who demonstrate academic achievement and potential; the ability to overcome significant adversity; financial need; demonstrated leadership or mentoring skills and a positive attitude.
Priority is given to those who experienced homelessness, have been in foster care, or lacked substantial family support during their high school careers.
Deadline: Applications available beginning February 1 and due April 1.
To Apply: Contact a High School Career Center or Social Worker from applicable Fairfax County High School or online via the Family Connection section of the Fairfax County Public Schools website (www.fcps.edu).
