SOLANO COLLEGE THEATRE WINS ARTY AWARDS
Fairfield, CA â October 22, 2024 â Solano College Theatre (SCT) won three Arty Awards this weekend for the 2023/2024 theatre season. Christine Mani won in the category âDirector for Adult Musicalsâ for her work on Anything Goes, SCTâs 2024 spring musical, while Liz Andrews won for her Choreography work on the show, and Sheena Beeson won best Supporting Actress for her performance as Moonface Martin.
âAnything Goes was a passion project for me,â said Mani during her acceptance speech. âThis show was very specialâwe had ASL interpreting throughout, and we brought tap back! It was such a pleasure working with Michael Reilly, our musical director, and Liz Andrews, our choreographer. Bringing it all back was wonderful.â
Andrews recognized the dancers who interpreted her choreography. âI owe a huge, huge thank you to the castâninety percent of them came in and couldnât tap⌠and they left tap dancers. This cast was the hardest working group of people Iâve worked with in a long time, and Iâm so proud of them,â said Andrews. âChristine, thank you for taking me on this journey.â
Beeson is the theatre instructor at Armijo High School, which won several awards throughout the evening.
âI donât often get to be myself, acting on the stage. Iâm often doing all the other stuff,â Beeson said. âI love this show, and when Christine Mani was going to be putting it on, oh my God you guys, I jumped at that opportunity! And as Moonface Martin, it couldnât have been a better fit.â
SCT students performed âAll Through the Nightâ from Anything Goes during a musical interlude, sung by Calem Hough and Ashlynn Kertianis and interpreted by Luna Swarner and Angelito Guevarra.
In addition to SCTâs 18 nominations, several members of the SCC community were also nominated for awards. SCC communications professor Janene Whitesell was nominated for her performance in Twelve Angry Jurors at the Winters Theatre Company, and several SCT community members including Trish Armstrong, Sheena Beeson, Angelito Guevarra, and Sheccid Donatt were nominated for their work across Solano County.
That's what I call beaming! đ

"Itâs hard to see things when you are too close. Take a step back and look." - Bob Ross đ¨đťâđ¨
Our stagecraft class is learning scenic painting techniques this week! Our students and staff will build and paint the set for "The Visit" from scratch in just over 3 months. It's an intricate set design with lots of stonework and texture to resemble European architecture.
Luckily, we have a little thing called the 30-Foot Rule. If it looks convincing from 30 feet away, it's good enough for the stage. Thanks, Bob Ross!
Today is World Teachers' Day! Drop an emoji in the comments to share your appreciation for our two favorite theatre teachers.
THANK YOU!! We are so excited to have received 18 Arty nominations for our two amazing shows last season, "A Midsummer Night's Dream: Bottom's Dream" and "Anything Goes".
Drop some congrats in the comments for our talented nominees! đ đ
