***ANNOUNCEMENT!***
We are excited to announce that Tracey Wilkie officially joined the Indigenous Association team on May 1st! She has been getting settled in, but she has already made an enormous positive impact in so many ways. Tracey was a founding board member of this organization and has been a faithful volunteer since.
Waabishki Giiwedin Ikwe, Tracey L. Wilkie, is an Administrative Assistant/Event Coordinator at the Indigenous Association. Tracey was born in Fargo North Dakota and raised on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Reservation, where she is a citizen. Tracey studied at Turtle Mountain Community College, United Tribes Technical College, and Minot State University. After University, Tracey moved to Portland Oregon where she worked in child protection services and a model site for criminal justice reform for 24 years. For 20 of those years Tracey was a AFSCME Local 88 member and steward advocating for workers’ rights. During her years on the west coast, Tracey kept her children engaged in the Native American Youth and Family Center in Portland Oregon. NAYA is a national model site for urban Native American Development and helped to positively influence them, connect them with the community, build relationships, and create trust. It has been around for 40 years and continues to grow.
Tracey's professional goals are to have services and opportunities for the Native American community of Turtle Island and to take a stand for progressive policies and procedures that ensure our next 7 generations are cared for. Tracey is skilled in youth and women's leadership development, communication, and is a trained problem solver and negotiator. She also has excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills.
Tracey’s personal goals are to be a good ancestor and to leave the world better than when she arrived. She enjoys being in multiple spaces. Tracey serves on the board for the Jeremiah Program, Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness, and the Fargo Moorhead Interfaith Center. Tracey is a human rights activist, water protector, land defender, and organizer in the community. Tracey is a survivor and advocate for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People. She fiercely fights for the liberation of all Indigenous peoples.
Tracey enjoys reading, journaling, sewing, beading, and dancing. She is the mother of four adult children and has two grandsons.
Tracey is a wonderful addition to the Indigenous Association team. Her skill set is vital in our work to unite, connect, and strengthen the Indigenous community in the Fargo/Moorhead region.
Please take a moment to welcome Tracey to the team!
🌈At Indigenous Association we continue to find ways to connect and engage with community partners to further our mission with connecting, uniting and being a strong organization in the Fargo Moorhead area. You are all welcome to join us at our next Community Connection gathering June 20, 2023.
♻️Today we had representation from the Great Plains Food Bank, Presentation Partners in Housing and Indigenous Association sisters Tanya and Tracey. For more information on Community Connection 3rd Tuesday contact Tanya@ indgns.org or mark your calender and show up to collaborate.

We were all saddened to learn of the vandalism that occurred sometime between October 30th and November 1st at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fargo, where the marble statue of St. Anthony was decapitated. We stand in solidarity with the parish in this distressing time. Violence is never acceptable. Whether that violence is against people, buildings, or sacred objects, it affects us all even if we don’t know the person, own the building, or identify the sacred objects as our own. To show our solidarity with St. Anthony’s Church, we would like to educate people on who St. Anthony of Padua was.
Saints in the Catholic tradition are people who have led especially honorable and holy lives, committing themselves to God. It is believed that they intervene on behalf of those in this world who call upon them. St. Anthony is one of the most popular Catholic saints. He was born into a prominent and wealthy family. He left his family and wealth to become an Augustinian monk. However, wanting to become a martyr, he left that order and became a Franciscan Friar. He dedicated his life to the poor and to those imprisoned because of debt and war. He was an eloquent preacher who brought many “lost souls” to the Catholic faith. Because of this, he is known as the Patron Saint of lost things. Many Catholics call on him to help them find things they have lost by saying, “Saint Anthony look around. Something’s lost and can’t be found.” To learn more about St. Anthony, visit: https://www.stanthony.org/who-st-anthony/.
Who is St. Anthony of Padua? | St Anthony Shrine St. Anthony of Padua is one of the Catholic Church’s most popular saints. Saint Anthony of Padua, patron saint of lost and stolen articles, was a powerful Franciscan preacher and teacher. He’s typically portrayed holding the child Jesus—or a lily—or a book—or all three—in his arms. Many ...

"Humanity is but a single brotherhood:
So make peace with your brethren."
~ The Quran 49:10
Also, here is one from the Buddha:
"Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love. This is the eternal rule."

Happy Hanukkah to our Jewish friends and family!
We Need Hanukkah This Year More Than Ever – Kveller I love Hanukkah — but for very different reasons than why my kids love Hanukkah. My kids love it because each one of the six of them have a hanukkiah, and I let them each light their own, which apparently appeals to their respective inner pyromaniacs. They love spinning dreidels and the built-in ....
