Did you know that the Moorhead Police Department offers a service to check on your home while you are away on vacation? The "Vacation House Check" Service has been something offered to the residents of Moorhead for many years. As a courtesy to all Moorhead citizens, officers and volunteers will conduct security checks of your home, at your request, if you are leaving town on vacation, for an extended period of time, or if you travel south for the winter.

Here are some additional travel tips for you to consider when preparing for that family vacation:
1. Plan ahead. The earlier you book the air, ship and/or train fares the cheaper the cost may be. Know the rules for any flights planned. Research the TSA website for the rules before you pack.
2. Plan activities for the kids while driving to and from locations.
3. Consider notifying a trusted neighbor to keep watch over your home.
4. Contact the US Postal Service and any newspaper service to hold any deliveries until your return.
5. Consider night light timers and sensors to be in operation during your time away.
6. Avoid posting on social media that you are away from your home and traveling. This may cause unwanted attention to your vacant home.
