We are accepting new patients and would love to see you when you need to be seen, not 2 months from now. Call today for an appointment (701) 478.4722
A great message to start the new year for women AND men of all ages!!
Had I seen this picture a few years ago, I would have been really upset with the way my stomach looks. For the first few years of my career, I was obsessed with the idea that looking good in a crop top (aka being way too lean) was what would achieve results. Seeing a picture like this would have sent me into a spiral of under-eating, and undeserved self-loathing.
Even being where I am today, with my body image being relatively positive, I took one look at this picture and thought, “Ooof.. I won’t be posting that one”. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized that this is the type of picture that needs to be posted more often. Because this picture is real.
I am so incredibly lucky to be doing what I love, at the highest level. My body moves, and rolls, and it allows me to push it to the extreme every single day. This body has stayed healthy at the most important times of my career. And this body, on this particular day, on this particular jump won me a gold medal. Who am I to criticize it, or think less of it in any way?
So, being a new year, I wanted to post this picture along with some friendly reminders: 1. Healthy bodies look different. And not just person to person, but moment to moment, season to season, year to year, etc. And this doesn’t just go for athletes. Whatever your purpose is in life, you are worth so much more than how your body looks. 2. Our bodies will not look (what we deem as) “perfect” at every moment, from every angle. And maybe we need to start redefining what “perfect” means.
For 2024 what’s in is: Fueling for performance, not aesthetic. I don’t just mean sport-specific performance. If you’re chasing around your little ones, fueling to have the energy to engage with them counts as performance. Fueling to be present in your job counts as performance. Fueling to feel like your best self, because you deserve it, counts as performance. What’s out is hyper-fixation on every single “flaw” with ourselves. While it’s completely normal to have photos we like of ourselves better than others, or times we feel better than others, we shouldn’t let it ruin our mood, day, week, etc.
Cheers to a happy and healthy 2024 friends! ❤️
