Last week, NDCUC members and staff were a part of the NCI Biofuels Industry Tour and had the opportunity to connect with individuals interested in ethanol from around the world!
NCI Hosts Biofuels Industry Tour | July 22 - 24, 2024 β Northern Crops Institute The Northern Crops Institute (NCI) hosted its Biofuels Industry Tour last week from July 22 - 24, 2024. The tour educated participants on the biofuels industry and included presentations and local tours from industry experts.
NDCUC board members are attending the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) Board of Delegates meeting this week in Salt Lake City, Utah. USGC develops export markets for U.S. corn, barley, grain
sorghum crops and related products, including ethanol and
distiller's dried grains (DDGS).

Congratulations to the Red River Valley Fair Association on today's unveiling of the new and improved Agriculture Education Center! It was an honor to be at today's event and to see RRVF's vision for this building come to fruition. Support from various contributors, including the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council, has made this building the perfect year-round destination for ag education. Come check it out for yourself, see the new NDCUC exhibit, and walk on the shiny new corn floor during this year's Red River Valley Fair June 28-30, July 4-7, and July 11-14!
Yesterday was a beautiful day for the NDSU Extension - Barnes County Jr. Crop Scout School at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center! The workshop, sponsored in part by the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council, gave youth a chance to meet and learn basic crop scouting skills from agricultural professionals including Alicia Harstad, NDSU Extension - Barnes County , Jeff Stachler, NDSU Extension - Griggs County, Jeff Gale, NDSU Extension Foster County , Greg Endres, NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center, Traci Lagein, NDSU Extension - Nelson County, Julianne Racine, NDSU Extension - LaMoure County, Michelle Gilley, NDSU Extension Eddy County, Katelyn Landeis, NDSU Extension Grand Forks County, Kathryn Slavick, NDSU Extension- Wells County, Joseph Cooper, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Margo Bowerman, North Dakota 4-H Youth Development & 4-H Foundation.
The future looks bright for these budding agricultural professionals!
In addition to a variety of biotech curriculum and industry tours, a highlight of the Nourish the Future Feeding and Fueling the World Workshop is the opportunity for attendees to make their own biofuels using corn and soybean oil. As the workshop wrapped, teachers saw their fuels put to the test using putt putt boats. They were a success!
As one attendee shared, "I have been to many workshops and professional development events. This workshop is the first one that I have attended that I can see myself actually implementing all of the material in my own classroom."
We can't wait to see the future agriculture leaders that these educators are sure to inspire!

Class is in session this week for 15 educators from across the state as they attend the Feeding and Fueling the World Workshop. This workshop, presented by Nourish the Future and sponsored in part by the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council and the North Dakota Soybean Council, engages teachers in hands-on, phenomena-based lessons focused on integrating the science of modern food production into their classrooms and career technical education programs. The future of science is in the classroom!
The future of ag is looking bright! The Northern Crops Institute hosted 40+ high school students last week in their annual Summer Ag Academy to learn about food science, animal science, and international trade and policy. Yesterday, North Dakota Corn Utilization Council board members and staff had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking of North Dakota State University's Bolley Agricultural Laboratory and the dedication of the Peltier Complex.
The Bolley Agricultural Laboratory, named after pioneer Henry L. Bolley, will be one of the largest capital projects in NDSU history, supporting research in plant pathology, agronomy, soil science, and more. The Peltier Complex, a state-of-the-art facility, will enhance research and education in food science, meat science, and related fields.
We look forward to witnessing agriculture continue to thrive throughout North Dakota thanks to the work being done by staff, faculty, and students within these facilities!

According to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture report, 86% of North Dakota's corn crop has been planted, tracking ahead of last year (75% planted) and the state's five-year average (82%). 45% of the crop has emerged, also tracking ahead of the average (36%). Nationally, 91% of the corn crop is planted and 74% has emerged. π½

According to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture report, 75% of North Dakota's corn crop has been planted, tracking ahead of last year (61% planted) and the state's five-year average (62%). 27% of the crop has emerged, also tracking ahead of the average (19%). Nationally, 83% of the corn crop is in the ground. π½

According to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture report, 22% of North Dakota's corn crop has been planted, tracking well ahead of last year (4% planted) and the state's five-year average (15%). 1% of the crop has emerged, equal to the average. Nationally, 54% of the corn crop is in the ground. π½
Field reports from our North Dakota Corn Utilization Council board members are showing positive planting progress across the state thanks to favorable weather.
