Interesting meta-analysis of the effectiveness of bystander administration of Narcan.
........
The opioid crisis is real and only getting worse. Many of us know people who have been affected by opioid addiction or overdose. That said, the administration of Narcan is often a contested subject, especially by bystanders.
I can't say that I know the answer to this crisis but I do know that Narcan often gives that person one more try at life. Maybe they will get help and maybe they wont. That is not up to me. I will do what I can though to help them in their moment of crisis.

Stop the Bleed class number three!
Small class today but still got a few people trained. One attendee is now registered to be an instructor so he can spread Stop the Bleed training to his local community!
I suck at remembering to take pictures so this is all I have from today, trying to get more proof of us doing tourniquets on each other eventually.
This amazing person goes around teaching cops how to use a tourniquet and it SAVES LIVES.
The truth is you do not need to be a medical professional or a cop to save someone's life in a dire situation such as a car accident, gun shot wound, or some freak accident you might never expect (especially if you work a dangerous job). You just need to know how to apply pressure and/or use a tourniquet.
Learning to stop the bleed saves lives every day.

First class completed today at the Kiwanis Recreation Center Fayetteville!
Next class is next week (12 Feb) at the Cliffdale recreation Center 10am-12pm.
Come learn to SAVE A LIFE!
Tourniquets save lives!!!
For a while the medical community came to fear tourniquets, saying to paramedics and nurses that 'they will lose the limb.'
That was until the most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, where all soldiers are trained to use tourniquets and reduction in mortality was exponential. (there are obviously other factors involved in that but to stay brief, that was one of the main game changers)
Below is a 2018 civilian study on tourniquet use and the reduction in mortality in hospitals.

Civilian tourniquet use associated with six-fold reduction in mortality Although several studies have looked at tourniquet use in civilian settings, the survival benefit for patients was unclear. However, new research from Texas shows that for civilian patients with peripheral vascular injury, prehospital tourniquet use
