We are incredibly grateful to our management team for giving us the opportunity to plan this year’s Employee Appreciation Day at Zoo Atlanta! Your trust and support allowed us to create a day filled with fun and unforgettable memories for our amazing team at The Southern Credit Union.

From exploring the awesome exhibits to enjoying the amazing food and company of our colleagues in such a unique setting, the day was a true celebration of the hard work and dedication that makes our organization thrive. Butts County 2024 New Teacher Orientation was held at their beautiful New Performing Arts Center this year! We were thrilled to be a part of this great event again and give out our thermal insulated cooler bags to all! They sure were a big hit! Best wishes for an awesome school year ahead!

Last week we sponsored the Pike County New Teacher Orientation and provided donuts and chick-fil-a for the entire staff and teachers! We wish all students, staff and teachers the best of luck this upcoming school year!

Meet the Team Monday: Jill from Our McDonough Branch!🌟

We’re excited to introduce Jill, our Interim Branch Manager at the McDonough branch. Jill has a passion for serving others and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our team.

Jill stated , “I am a proud single mom to an amazing son who plays football for Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. I am a people person and love serving others—customer service is my forte. I am a firm believer in the phrase ‘LIVE LOVE LAUGH’ because it is an encouraging message with positive intentions that fully describes the person I am.”

She enjoys tailgating and watching her son play football, cooking, spending time with her family at Lake Sinclair, and her amazing friends. She is on the Dream Team at her church (Turning Point Church) and very involved. Her hobbies include going to concerts and the beach.

An interesting fact about Jill is that she went to college for Interior Design and worked for The Southern Credit Union back in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Jill has spent the last 3 years in the mortgage business and came back to work with us last November. She mentioned that she is so GRATEFUL to be back! We are thrilled to have her back too so next time you’re at the McDonough branch, be sure to stop and say hello to Jill. She’s always here to help with a smile, cheerful attitude and great advice!

We had a busy morning at the Clayton County New Teacher Orientation, welcoming about 400 new teachers to the community! 🎓🍎

It was inspiring to see so many passionate individuals ready to make a difference in their students’ lives. We enjoyed discussing financial wellness and the unique benefits the Southern Credit Union offers to educators.

Meet the Team Monday: Welcome Sam!

We are excited to announce that Sam Giddens joined our team as the VP Sr. Regional Manager of our Coweta/Newnan Market. Sam will be taking on the responsibility of managing our Newnan Branch while also expanding our relationships and presence in this rapidly growing area.

Sam brings a wealth of experience to the team. He earned his BBA from Valdosta State University in December 2010 and has furthered his education by completing the GBA State Banking School at UGA (2016) and the Graduate School of Banking at LSU (2019). With more than ten years in the financial services industry, Sam has held key positions including City President of Wilcox County State Bank (2014-2020) and VP Commercial Lending with United Bank (2020-2024).

Sam, along with his lovely wife Molly and their young children, Chaapel Lynne (6) and Wright (3), have proudly called Newnan home since 2020. He is actively involved in the community through the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Newnan Rotary Club, ELEVATE Coweta Students Board of Directors, and Newnan City Church.

With Sam’s expertise and community involvement, we are confident he will play a crucial role in The Southern Credit Union’s continued success. Our Newnan Branch renovations are ongoing, with an anticipated opening in April 2025.

Today is Meet the Team Monday again! Today, meet Ivan Buice.

Ivan has been with The Southern since March 2021. He is currently serving as one of our Senior Loan Officers. In addition to his primary responsibilities, he also assists new onboarding lenders with their lending training.

He brings over nine years of experience in the banking industry. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 2019 and graduated with a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Southern University in 2022. He was excited to share that he recently got engaged to his wonderful fiancé, Megan Brooks.

Before joining our team, Ivan worked at 1st National Bank of Griffin for six years. His last position there was Assistant Branch Manager, where he was actively involved in community activities.

In his free time, Ivan loves spending time with his fiancé Megan and their families. He is passionate about serving the Lord at North Griffin Church, visiting with the elderly in nursing homes, and teaching children’s ministry. “Being the hands and feet of Jesus throughout our local community is something I deeply cherish,” Ivan said.

Ivan also shared, “One interesting fact about me is my unique laugh – it’s my trademark, and everyone recognizes it!” He enjoys being positive and encouraging to those around him.

We’re thrilled to have Ivan as part of our Southern team, bringing his diverse talents, passion for helping people and infectious enthusiasm to everything he does!

Paula consistently excels in taking care of our members, developing her team, and training new hires. Her positive attitude and teamwork have created a harmonious work environment, benefiting the entire organization.

Welcome to Meet the Team Monday!
We’re excited to introduce Michael, the newest supervisor of our Telephone Service Center at The Southern Credit Union! Michael was hired back in August 2023 to be our branch manager over at our McDonough Branch!

A Little About Michael:
Michael moved from Michigan to Fayetteville when he was just 7 years old. He grew up and attended schools in the Fayetteville area before graduating from Georgia State University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in History Education. Michael lives with his partner of 14 years and their four beloved pets: two dogs, Willow and Clover, and two cats, Crimson and Lilly.

Current Position:
Michael has taken on the role of TSC Supervisor, where he will be overseeing our Telephone Service Center to ensure our members receive top-notch service.

Previous Experience:
Before joining our team, Michael spent 16 years in retail management with Starbucks, where he honed his leadership and customer service skills.

Hobbies and Interests:
In his spare time, Michael is a big Nintendo and Lego enthusiast, a passionate vinyl collector, and a dedicated music lover. He also enjoys the creative and relaxing hobby of creating fish tanks and aquascaping.

We’re thrilled to have Michael on board and can’t wait for you all to get to know him better. Welcome to the Fayetteville team, Michael!

Meet Lindsey, our fantastic Member Service Representative at The Southern Credit Union! 🌟

Lindsey graduated from Georgia College & State University in 2020 with a BS in Exercise Science. She worked in the restaurant industry starting in high school and continued in the Food and Beverage Industry throughout the entire duration of college.

After college, she worked at a hospital in a rehabilitation unit. There, she worked alongside Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists helping them administer various therapies to a wide variety of patients. When she’s at home one of her favorite things to do is cook. She really enjoys trying out new recipes for friends and family. She is also very into music (all kinds) and loves reading! To relax, she enjoys watching Jeopardy and the Braves in the evenings after a long day. However, spending time with family and friends is her favorite way to spend her free time!

Lindsey also has a 7 month old Golden Retriever puppy named Bella. She is a HUGE part of her life. In her spare time she has been working on training her and taking her to obedience classes. She also helps coach her 4 year old nephews T-Ball team. She grew up playing softball so she really enjoys teaching them how to play the game. She said it has been so much fun getting to coach them and watch them play!

We’re thrilled to have Lindsey as part of our team, bringing her warmth, expertise, and vibrant spirit to every interaction. Join us in welcoming Lindsey to The Southern Credit Union family! 🎉
