The beaches are open and are pristine despite the hurricane which just passed through. It's surprising how they appear untouched even though back at the ranch there were many branches to clean up. So go ahead and book your ride now, the horses are looking forward to it! www.happytrailswalkers.com

Here's a really neat read!
In his autobiography, "Happy Trails: The Story of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans," the former Leonard Slye stated that his stage name of Roy Rogers was given to him by executives at Republic Pictures when he became their new singing cowboy to replace Gene Autry. The 'Rogers' came from Will Rogers, the beloved western comic and storyteller who had recently died in a plane crash in Alaska and 'Roy' was made the first name because it is the French word for "king," as in "Roy Rogers, King of the Cowboys." Roy said he had no input at all in the renaming decision.
Besides his most famous role as Roy Rogers himself, "King of the Cowboys," Roy may be one of the few actors, if not the most famous one, to have played three of the West's greatest legends: Wild Bill Hickok in "Young Bill Hickok" (1940), William F. Cody (aka Buffalo Bill) in "Young Buffalo Bill" (1940) and Jesse James in "Jesse James at Bay" (1941). Also, in "Billy the Kid Returns" (1938), he played the slain gunslinger as well.
In 1968, Rogers licensed his name to the Marriott corporation, which converted its Hot Shoppes restaurants into Roy Rogers Restaurants, with which Rogers otherwise had no involvement.
"Not long after Will Rogers died, they turned his ranch into a museum. And it didn't have anything in it. So I made up my mind I was gonna keep everything."
The Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum was established in its first location in Apple Valley, CA in 1967. In 1976 it relocated within California to Victorville, where it stayed for 27 years. After Rogers' death in 1998, and Evans in 2001, in 2003 the museum moved to Branson, Missouri. Two prized and unique possessions of the museum were Trigger, Rogers' horse, and Bullet, Rogers' dog, in taxidermy.
Ray told his son, "If the museum starts costing you money, then liquidate everything and move on." The museum closed its doors in December, 2009. The assets were auctioned off at Christie's in July 2010. (IMDb/Wikipedia)
Happy Birthday, Roy Rogers!

NBC TV arrived to do a shoot with us for their show, First Coast Living. It may air this Tuesday August 1st at 11am, but for sure sometime this coming week. I had a great time with their staff and look forward to seeing what they create! We even had one of our new palomino horses, Lady, on the set for them to ride. I was very surprised to discover that the gal who set this up with me was for six years the Press Secretary for the Ukraine. What a wonderful gal she is! I can't say enough good about their whole team! All wonderful people.
It's looking like it will be sometime in September that we will move to Amelia Island State Park. We recently added a 3 year old palomino mare, Lady; and a 9 year old strawberry roan gelding Romeo, to our herd. After a few weeks of allowing them to get to know our herd they both had their first rides on the beach this week. They did great! We are very excited about all the changes we are making and new staff coming as well. The future looks bright for many Happy Trails to come!!!
