Human Trafficking is a pervasive issue affecting far too many people. We must come together and BE the Voice for those in captivity. I'm honored to be that voice!
Many have asked, what are the warning signs of Human Trafficking?
Since human trafficking is often a crime that is hidden in plain sight, it is important to be aware of its warning signs. Some indications that a person may be a victim of human trafficking include (especially in the case of women and children):
π₯ Appearing malnourished
π₯ Showing signs of physical injuries and abuse
π₯ Avoiding eye contact, social interaction, and authority figures/law enforcement
π₯ Seeming to adhere to scripted or rehearsed responses in social interaction
π₯ Lacking official identification documents
π₯ Appearing destitute/lacking personal possessions
π₯ Working excessively long hours, Living at place of employment
π₯ Checking into hotels/motels with older males, and referring to those males as boyfriend or βdaddy,β which is often street slang for pimp
π₯ Poor physical or dental health
π₯ Tattoos/ branding on the neck and/or lower back
π₯ Untreated sexually transmitted diseases
π₯ Small children serving in a family restaurant
π₯ Security measures that appear to keep people inside an establishment - barbed wire inside of a fence, bars covering the insides of windows
π₯ Not allowing people to go into public alone, or speak for themselves
These warning signs are adapted from information provided by the Polaris Project and its National Human Trafficking Resource Center and Innocents at Risk.

As an Assistant County Prosecutor, I have a huge passion about bringing awareness to and combating human trafficking.
Ohio is particularly vulnerable to human trafficking because it has both large urban centers and rural counties and a large transient and immigrant population, as well as five major highways with easy access to other states and Canada.
National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is recognized each year on January 11th. In recognition of this important day, and throughout the month of January, Blue Campaign hosts several special events and educational activities. Blue Campaign's largest initiative is on January 11th. Will you join me and wear blue this Thursday?
If you're interested in more information about this pervasive issue and what we are doing locally to combat it, I will be at Winebrenner Theological Seminary this Saturday, January 13th for Break The Silence - Be the Voice.

Ohio Prosecuting Attorney's Association (OPAA) conference. Fun after 5pm, watching the Christmas tree lights keep time with the music.
On Saturday, December 16, don't say "I should have," say "I did."
In 2015, the Ohio Federation of Republican Women (OFRW) chartered busses to Arlington National Cemetery for the annual Wreaths Across America event. As each wreath is laid, we were asked to speak the name (on the headstone) aloud.
