Fitchburg Friends of Felines
MA Lic #256 non-profit 501(c)(3) all-volunteer cat rescue helping strays, ferals, and the community.
Update on Beatrice, aka "Stray DSH Sweetie", the broken leg kitten brought into one of our favorite emergency hospitals, and is recovering from her amputation.
Boy, is she ever!
She is healing like a champ! Her foster parent sent us the video of her enjoying some play time and time outside of her cone loving life and acting like the kitten she is.
She is happy and comfortable in her new figure, and on the mend!
We are still fundraising for her surgery and medical expenses and hospitalization. If you have a spare $5, 100% of your tax deductible donation goes to medical.

We are so appreciativd of the support from the FB community that allows us to care for these critical patients.
If you are interested in fostering a kitty in crisis, we still have so many in need: two pairs of senior kitties, one pair whose owner is losing her home November 10th, the other pair living in an empty warehouse, friendly but alone. We also have Oreo, our purr-baby who just endured radiation treatment to abolish his thyroid issue, and is recovering.
You give these kitties love and attention. We pay the medical. Win win!
PM us, call our hotline at 978-222-3170, or email us at [email protected] for details on giving a homeless kitty that no one else wants, a home.
Thank you again for supporting our mission of saving every one.

Thank you for supporting our tough to place cats!
Happy cat day to all the cat lovers who know the value of a good purrfest!
Update on Beatrice, aka "Stray DSH Sweetie", the broken leg kitten brought into one of our favorite emergency hospitals, and we were asked to take this surrender and find her care.
Yesterday we picked up this sweet, purry kitten from one hospital and brought it to another, Tufts in Grafton. The amazing staff worked their magic, and we picked up this love with one less leg, some medication for the road, and brought back to the hospital for recovery, where a staff member of this emergency hospital has graciously offered her home for recovery.
She is healing well and happily comfortable and not in pain.
Removal of a leg is not taken lightly. Originally it was thought a pin could hold this broken bone in place until healed. Upon an orthopedic consult, and additional consults with other vets, it was determined that full leg removal would be ideal. The reason behind that is because the break would not require just one pin, but a plate and pin. With a small kitten, the plate may be rejected as it is a foreign body. Infection can also occur; either result would require an additional surgery, or ultimately, removal of the leg anyways.
If we decided to do the plate route, this would also require this small kitten to be in a very small cage, medicated and unable to move for a couple months or more for recovery, as one move or extra weight on that leg could cause additional injury and another operation.
Considering this kitten is young and in great health overall, we considered the quality of life and knowing that after only a few days this Kitty will be up and bouncing around and acting like a kitten again, instead of confined for months and no guarantee of an easy recovery.
We have done several amputations of legs at our rescue, and found that all of our kitties do not miss that missing leg. One technician advised us recently that in vet school, they were taught that cats only need three legs, and the fourth is a bonus.
We hope all can understand and appreciate the decision made to save this kitten's life and allow for a high quality life, the rest of her life.
We are still fundraising for her surgery and medical expenses, as just one day of hospitalization is over $700, and we have not received the surgical bill yet. If you have a spare $5, or maybe more, we are holding a raffle of $50 TX Roadhouse gift cards, with the Fitchburg Friends of Felines logo on it, one $50 to each of three winners. Tickets are $5/each, or 3 for $10. We hope you may be interested in entering. 100% of your tax deductible donation goes to medical, not food nor supplies.

We are honored that these hospitals entrust us with the care of critical patients such as these, as well as the amazing support of our Facebook community.
If you are interested in fostering a kitty in crisis, we have several in need, from our pair of senior kitties whose owner is losing her home November 10th, to our "glowing" kitty, Oreo, our purr-baby who just endured radiation treatment to abolish his thyroid issue, and is recovering.
You give these kitties love and attention. We flip the bill with the vets. Great deal, right?
Please consider. PM us, call our hotline at 978-222-3170, or email us at [email protected] for details.
Thank you again for supporting our mission of saving every one.
Hopefully you never need to know this....
Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a life—especially our furry friends—can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.
Stay Calm:
1️⃣ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2️⃣ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3️⃣ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.
When to Start CPR:
🐾 Your pet isn’t responding
🐾 Your pet isn’t breathing
🐾 You can’t feel a heartbeat or pulse
How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
❤️ Position your pet on their side.
❤️ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
❤️ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.
Breaths:
❤️ Close your pet’s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
❤️ Cover their nose and give 2 breaths—enough to make their chest rise.
❤️ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If there’s no pulse, continue.
When to Stop CPR:
🐾 Your pet starts breathing and responding
🐾 You reach the vet clinic and they take over
🐾 You can’t continue physically
🐾 Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious
Recovery Position:
Place your pet’s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless there’s head trauma).
Compression Techniques:
🐶 Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
🐱 Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.
Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! ❤️
Looking for assistance in helping a new kitty we don't even have yet!
Meet Beatrice, aka "Stray DSH Sweetie". This cat was brought into one of our favorite emergency hospitals a couple days ago by a good Samaritan, because the kitty was hanging around, not putting pressure on her leg. The hospital accepted the surrender and the staff immediately fell in love with this purr baby! Unfortunately, upon X-ray, a fracture was revealed of the right hind limb.
The vet hospital thought she would be a candidate for a pin, avoiding the need for an amputation of the leg. Unfortunately, that is beyond their scope, and an orthopedic consult is needed.
They called us to take this surrender and try to help.
This young female kitten is only estimated to be 8 months old, which means she is a fast healer at her young age. So any procedure to save the leg needs to be done ASAP.
We called around and could not get a consult sooner than a couple weeks away, so we are going another route to get in front of an orthopedic team.
This AM we are picking this little up at the hospital and taking her to another emergency hospital that does orthopedics and having her admitted as an emergency, to see if a pin would be an option, or if a full amputation is needed.
The least expensive route would be the amputation, but we know the quality of life may be a bit higher on 4 legs instead of 3. So we are looking for your support.
We are hoping you may have a spare $5. Or maybe more. We are holding a raffle of two $50 TX Roadhouse gift cards, with the Fitchburg Friends of Felines logo on it, one to each of two winners. tickets are $5/each, or 3 for $10. We hope you may be interested in entering.
https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8KVXDG6JF8ZPA
This is a tax-deductible donation, and helps us pay an expensive medical bill... Or... If approved for a pin... A more expensive medical bill.
We are blessed to be in the minds of the staff of these hospitals when there is a kitty in crisis, as well as the amazing support of our Facebook community.
As always, thank you so much for supporting our little rescue. YOU are the reason we take in the hard cases, and give these loves a high quality of life once again.

Kitty Pop Update... Yes, she is still alive and kicking!
It has been over a year that a good Samaritan found this declawed little old lady, found with a dog collar on that wore off her fur, in the middle of a predator filled woods of West Fitchburg, MA back in the Summer of 2023. She had more medical issues than we can count, but is in no pain and living her best life.
We have been advocating "Plan B" for this little 6 lb love since the beginning. She originally was in such bad shape, the doctors felt humane euthanasia was best. Then, she relapsed, a couple times, and we again found Plan B suits her well, and she always has been a champ and bouncing back to a high quality life.
What is a little kidney and liver issues, knee and back issues, arthritis, bad teeth, electrolyte and heart issues and possible cancer? If we can treat them all, and her quality of life can be brought to a high standard, we will do it. And... we did.
She is a permanent foster of a family who treats her as the Queen that she is. Their expert care, vigilance and attentiveness to her medical needs is why she has been going strong for this long.
In the Summer she was having some senior moments, was brought back again to her other favorite place, Leominster Animal Hospital, where she yet again, bounced back to beautiful blissful.
She still claims her fosters' laps as her thrones, and their home her palace. She does her Jane Fonda workouts of walks patrolling the home several times a day. She basks in the sun daily, soaking up her vitamin D, and wakes her foster up in the middle of the night when she demands to eat.
Thank you for the continued support and donations to cover her medical bills and prescriptions, as she is a monthly investment we are happy to contribute to.
If you have $5 burning a hole in your pocket, please consider donating towards Kitty Pop's medical care, and enter to win a $50 TX Roadhouse gift card for every $5 received. Winner pulled Halloween night!

If you root for the underdog, too, with room in your heart and home, consider becoming a foster for us. We supply everything medically. You supply the love and attention. Our cats are normally the elderly, medical issues, victims of car accidents, or from the streets or hoarder situations that need patience and love to come out of their shell. We are there every step of the way if you are willing give an imperfect kitty a perfect life. If you are willing to become a foster, please fill out an application here:

Our newest fosters are loving their kitty pillows made by the amazing and generous crew at Fabrics n Things. We appreciate all they do to give our homeless kitties comfort in their new foster homes!
If you are not that creative, but would like to help in other way, consider donating canned kitten food, toys, litter, or other items you may already have, or look at our Amazon or Chewy wishlists for suggestions.

Thanks for caring about our cats as much as we do!
Anyone got some canned kitten food to spare? We normally do not have kittens in our rescue, as our partner shelters are happy to take the littles in, and we keep the difficult to place cats.
Unfortunately, our shelters are full.
So, now we have our difficult to place medical and behavioral kitties, and our not so difficult to place adorable kittens under our care.
But, we are in need of canned kitten food, as we have a very limited supply. Any brand would make us happy.
Please PM us, call our hotline at 978-222-3170, or email [email protected] if you wish to donate some cans for our newly acquired mini residents. All donations are tax-deductible.
If you prefer to place an order for delivery, our shipping address is 499 Electric Ave., PMB 180, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
Any monetary donations received only go to our medical and prescriptions. We do not purchase any food, litter, toys bedding, nor supplies with our money received from donors. Those are all received by donation of our supporters. We can't afford to use our cash for that! Our medical kitties are too expensive! Good thing they are cute!
If you prefer to give towards these kittens medical bills, also happy to take that support! They still need 2 more doctor visits before they can be adopted.
Our donation link is here: https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8KVXDG6JF8ZPA
Thanks for supporting our mission to save them all!

Thank you to all who have submitted applications for our ragdoll kittens and cats over the past couple days. We have them at a foster home now, settling in to their new space for assessment.
As many may be aware, we match cats with their perfect families, so we are in the beginning stages of assessing their personalities to determine the best type of home for them, and if any are bonded and need to stay together.
If you have submitted an application, you will be receiving an email today about next steps.
Because we have over 50 applications, we want to be realistic and let everyone know that we appreciate the outreach for these littles, but we do not have 50 ragdoll cats to distribute. We do have so many more cats and kittens available to foster and adopt other than these newbies. We hope that you will consider any of our other available babies that have been waiting for a home, some a very long time.
Most of their profiles are on Petfinder and can be found here:
https://www.petfinder.com/member/us/ma/fitchburg/fitchburg-friends-of-felines-inc-ma574/
And, it goes without saying, we would appreciate any donation you can give to help us to the vetting of these cats and others. We have a total of one dozen spay and neuters to be done, two dentals, and one sick kitty to go under radiation next week. All are at a considerable cost for a small rescue. If you have some spare change burning a hole in your pocket, please help save a life.
https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=8KVXDG6JF8ZPA
And, we're always looking for volunteers to help us help kitties. If you have just an hour a month, you can help better the lives of homeless cats. You don't have to live near Fitchburg to help. There are so many things you can do from home or in your hometown to help in our mission to save every one.

Thank you yet again for the outpouring of support for all our cats in need.
Who loves kittens?
Who loves Ragdolls?
Who loves to foster?
Who may want to adopt?
Who may have some spare change?
We have a big ask!
We are so fortunate that a local breeder who has decided to retire is entrusting us with the care of her remaining kittens and adults, in need of vetting and a home.
We are overfloweth with cats, so we need to expand our foster Network NOW!
We also need to get all of these cats and kittens vetted, another expensive task.
If you may have room in your hearts and home for a fluffy adorable or two, and you are thinking about adopting, but not sure, consider fostering first!
Our application is here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform
If you may have a spare couple bucks to put towards their vetting, please consider us! We are looking at a pretty penny... Or thousands, to get these guys sterilized, shots, and tested.

Thanks for your help in helping these kitties find their forever home!
This is a courtesy post for a sweet cat named Troy with Lymphoma and IBD, now regulated with medication, in need of being in an only kitty home. He could live another 2-3 years, so a committed person or family is needed for the duration of Troy's life.
Troy is currently in NH. Information is on the attached flier about his sad history and current sweet state. Interested parties should contact Donna at 603-520-4235.
Thank you for caring about Troy.

Meet Stevie: Fitchburg Friends of Felines's newest medical problem child.
Stevie was appearing in the backyard of one of our volunteers pretty regularly. One day she noticed a wound on him, so we brought him to the vet, and were advised to put him under rabies protocol. We quarantined him for 4 months, and tried to find owners in the interim to no avail.
He was a bit of a grouch during his stay with his fosters, but they were still vigilant on trying to socialize him and make him a happy kitty, although he was stubborn.
We brought him to the vets for a final check up and quarantine release, and during that visit... some mystical... magical... Somewhat absurdly freakish transformation happened there! He decided he didn't want to be a feral grouch anymore and warmed up to every technician and vet at that hospital! He came back with his foster with a new leash on life and a total cuddle bug attitude!
Leominster Animal Hospital has fairy dust in their pockets!
Not a week after his 4 month quarantine ended, and he has adapted to his new personality he discovered... he starts limping.
Back to the vets we go.
After x-rays and a radiologist consult, it has been determined that he had an old, severe trauma to a back leg which caused an injury that will keep reoccurring with his increaseed activity unless we either amputate or get a procedure done that ties back his tendons to the knee.
Due to his quarantine he was kept confined, in a smaller room, so he was never limping because he didn't get full run of the house. Now that he was able to stretch more in a bigger space, he overdid it that first week.
Figures.
Back to smaller spaces for him!
We are working on appointments with an orthopedic to find out the best route for him, as we don't want to make any haste decisions with an amputation if we can avoid it. In the interim, we have him on pain meds, anti-inflammatories, and injections and treats that help with arthritis which should help with his pain.
He is still available for adoption, but we will need someone to foster him first until we can get his procedure done to make him all better! Luckily we incur the cost while you Foster and figure out if he is perfect for you and your family.
Can you spare a couple bucks for help with his care? This is going to be another big cost incurred, but he has already proven he is worth it.

It is time to announce the foster to adopt "Heeler" family: Bluey, Bingo, and their momma, Chili!
For those with young children, you know who they are.
Our adorable Chili, a tortie found on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester by a good Samaritan, turned her into one of our partner hospitals who asked us to take this mom with a severe issue to her front leg and was thought to require amputation.
Chili was pregnant, and a decision was made not to amputate her bent leg, as this suspected injury turned out to be a deformity she has lived with her whole life and does not cause her pain.
Therefore we did not abort the babies to do an amputation and she is very happy with all four legs, one with some flair, and now two babies.
Bluey and Bingo are two happy, rambunctious 7 week old girls, in love with their mom as much as their mom is in love with them. Therefore we have decided to keep them as a trifecta, available for adoption together.
We have had some very successful adoptions of three kitties at a time and are looking for that special family, couple, or single person, to open their home and hearts to this trio.
Because the kittens are still young, we are looking for a Foster to adopt scenario for all three. Once all are fully vetted, they will be available for adoption by whomever fosters them.
All still need the remainder of their vet visits complete before adoption. We pay for all medical until adoption. You just concentrate on giving them love and attention until you can adopt.
Their current foster family consists of a toddler and preschooler, so young families who have had their young children exposed to cats in the past would be considered for these kitties.
If interested, please check out their profiles and fill out an application, so we can find the best fit for this beautiful cat family.
Thank you for considering adoption!
