Such a great weekend at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers' Association (RMATA) Symposium in Provo, Utah! Our students spent time attending presentations and networking with other students and certified athletic trainers'. We had great representation from 1st and 2nd years from both the Flagstaff and PBC campuses.

Our esteemed faculty also had the opportunity to present this past weekend. Drs. Edgerton and Hostetter presented on Special Tests - What Are We Missing? This presentation addressed basic principles of diagnostic accuracy and how they help determine the quality of special tests and held a workshop to allow ATs to practice special tests with high diagnostic accuracy values. Dr. Oshikoya presented Mind the Gap: Leading and Participating in Multigenerational Athletic Training Workforce. Dr. Mulready presented her research on the effects of positional release therapy in a patient diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome (PCS).

Spring is in the air! Last weekend, we observed our 2nd year, Erika Schwartz, provide care at the ASU Maroon Monsoon Women's Gymnastics Tri-Meet against the University of Oklahoma and University of California, Berkeley. It was an exciting meet and we have some snapshots of our student with her clinical preceptor, Shelby Feltrop.

Erika is excited to finish her final semester in the NAU MSAT program and has a few words to share:

"This year I was given the opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience working with the ASU Women’s Gymnastics Team. With the help of my preceptor, I have enjoyed applying my gymnastics skill set, while improving my clinical assessment skills. My second year in NAU's MSAT program has been a positive learning experience, combining my classroom knowledge with hands-on practice. This has increased my confidence as I get closer to becoming a certified Athletic Trainer."

Keep up the great work, Erika!

In honor of Native American Heritage Month we would like to recognize 1st year student Hosteen Smith who is of the Onk Akimel O’odham & Dine tribes. Heritage to Hosteen is how you represent your people, culture, and values you learned growing up. Hosteen’s favorite tradition is the Unity Run, the 4 O’odham Sister Tribes gathering and the Run from Red Mountain to our oldest village in Mexico called Chedag Degia. The Run from Red Mountain is a prayer run to see all of our ancestral lands and sacred sites while carrying the prayers of everyone we come in contact with along the way. Hosteen’s goals after graduation are to gain experience and eventually work with the Olympic training center.
