Four years ago today, the world went into lockdown. The fear of the unknown set in. Those who were on the frontlines had to continue work as we knew it. I was currently working in OB full-time while running IV calls on the side, mostly with known COVID cases. We were covered head to toe in PPE, losing our abilities to touch and be affectionate with people, one of the core senses nurses use to help heal. The only way to communicate with our patients was through our eyes, voices and hearts. I’d work 60-70 hour weeks, exhausted to the bone, leaving my husband and kids for hours on end. Thank God for my husband. We made the decision that one of us had to be home with our 4 kids. He could teach from home, but I couldn’t nurse from home. Not only did he teach from home, he stepped up his game ten-fold and kept the household running like nothing had happened. That gave me the comfort in knowing that I could give myself wholly to the crisis at hand. He even set up our travel trailer on our driveway for me to use as a decontamination station before I entered our home. I learned to triage out in the community: those who were turned away from the hospital because they were maxed out or because the patient wasn’t sick enough (yet) for hospitalization. I was able to keep many people home through IV vitamin hydration, immune support, and comfort their symptoms. I helped interstate, semi-truck drivers that were turned away from multiple hospitals be able to get hydrated and recovered so they can hit the road and continue on with their essential work. I was able to assist families make the ultimate decision that they were truly sick enough to go to the hospital in hopes of receiving care. Doctors weren’t seeing patients except through telemedicine. Some relied on me to evaluate their patient’s lungs because they weren’t willing to see them in person. I assisted a patient in labor at home who was afraid to go to the hospital in fear of getting sent home because she was in early labor. Contrary to what she thought, was in active labor and the labor nurse in me knew she needed to go in. One hour later, she delivered safely at the hospital.

Although I do not work bedside anymore, I continue to carry on my work in the community. My patients range from healthy athletes to those seeking to maintain health & wellness, those with autoimmune disorders, cancer, chronic pain & fatigue, acute illnesses, morning sickness, altitude sickness, dehydration, migraines, and the like. I’m not wearing all me PPE anymore, thankfully, so you now get to see my smile at the end of our sessions. I get to give you a hug and comfort you. My work & heart has not changed. And I continue to be thankful for my health & immune system for keeping me strong through all this.
We all have risen from those dark days.
We need to focus on the sunshine in every day.
Continue to help the weak, the sick, the lonely. We are blessed with so much more than we can see. You just need to search for it and know in your heart that life goes on.

Mobile IV Nurses has implemented Good Faith Exams (telehealth visits) for each client that is required to be done ONCE PER YEAR . It costs $15 (will go up to $30 by 4/15/24) and we will compensate for that cost with a free add-in nutrient worth $30. This initiative is in line with new state regulations and aims to continue ensuring patient safety. This is about a 5 minute telemedicine visit required to be done before I can administer any treatments to you.
