Ms. Menzies, has over 20 years of clinical expertise in the areas behavioral health, addiction and trauma treatment with children, adults, and first responders. She has served as a Forensic expert for NY Family and Supreme Courts, as a clinical supervisor for schools, residential treatment, hospitals, and community mental health programs.

She specializes as a trauma therapist utilizing EMDR, an integrative evidence based effective psychotherapy for the treatment of trauma. Menzies has a private therapy practice in Floral Park, NY and holds several independent consulting contracts providing assessment, intervention, trauma treatment, supervision and program development with children, adults and families with mental health, addiction and/or trauma issues. Menzies is an Adjunct professor in the School of Social Work at Adelphi University and has provided numerous training's, and consultations, in the field of mental health and professional development. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical social work from Fordham University, a certificate from South Oaks Institute of Alcoholism and Addictive Behavior, is an EMDRIA approved EMDR trauma therapist and is a Reiki practitioner

Riley is a 9 year old Black Labrador who is a trained service dog of East Coast Assistance Dogs. Riley works with his human companion Cathy Menzies on an as needed basis . Riley’s specialty is assisting with children with emotional and behavioral issues. Riley has experience attending in clinical sessions, and participating in classroom activities and special school events. Through his calm, friendly demeanor Riley helps Cathy promote improvements in social, emotional, and cognitive abilities. When Riley is not hard at work, he likes to enjoy a cookie or two and spend time with his best friend, Sylvester the cat. Animal Assisted therapy has been demonstrated to have positive effects for children on changing behavior, promoting social interactions, enhancing communication, creating a sense of responsibility and improved ability to participate in therapeutic treatments. For adults, animal assisted therapy can decrease feelings of loneliness, and reduce general anxiety among other benefits.

🌞Happy social work day 🌞Grateful for all the social workers who work everyday to empower others. Inspired by those have led me on my path and those who I have mentored , educated or supported their professional growth with individuals, groups, families, communities and in government. The increase in anxiety, depression, traumatic stress , in the law enforcement, emergency services and healthcare professions is a serious crisis. I agree with the author of this article that it is not only in the big agencies like NYPD. We need to focus on increasing the efforts of awareness, education, intervention and treatment without stigma or issues with access to care. More than once a week we hear about individuals in the helping professions fearing issues with their employer if they seek help. There needs to be a systemic approach to address this crisis from the top leaders to the employee and their families.
