After a valiant effort to repair it, our well pump has completely died and a replacement won't be here until next week. We hope the grass doesn't brown out too much but we'll nurse it back to health asap when we can get water flowing again.

In the meantime we'll be praying for rain, just not as fervently as we did last week. ;-)

After visiting Fremont County during last year’s SoCo Startup Day, Mallory decided to move back to her hometown and is “overjoyed” to be here and see the growth in the business community. Welcome home, Mallory!

“I like to say that I am a storyteller in the form of a content marketer. Crafting a compelling story using web copy, social media, testimonials, earned media and other tools can create an emotional connection with your target audience while educating them on what you offer and why they need it. And when it comes to competing products and services, the company with the best story always wins.

After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, I have amassed more than two decades of experience branding, promoting and providing crisis communications for clients in the healthcare, legal, bioscience, technology, tourism and news sectors. I currently serve as the Director of PR and Marketing at a Denver Agency and owner of Paper Blossoms Content Marketing. I am overjoyed to be back in Fremont County and excited to see the incredible growth taking place in my hometown.”

Emergent Campus; Historic Florence High School, LLC // History Colorado Board Award 05/15/2024

This is the short video about Emergent Campus that was played at the award ceremony in Denver at the History Colorado Center on April 16th. Only five Stephen H. Hart Awards for Historic Preservation are awarded each year throughout the entire state. Our award was specifically for preserving the building with unique reuse around job creation. We're very proud of this award as it highlights the role of the building in the history and heritage of Florence, and recognizes the community wide effort to bring new types of jobs to Fremont County.

"The Stephen H. Hart Awards celebrates and recognizes exemplary projects in archaeology and historic preservation across the state. Each project contributes to the field of preservation because of their innovative approaches, in-depth research, and/or use of proper techniques that honor the historic significance and craftsmanship of Colorado’s archaeological and built environment."

‘An absolutely critical need:’ Visionary Broadband breaks ground in Cañon City 05/03/2024

Local volunteers, business leaders, and government officials have been working for many years to continually improve broadband options in the region. This specific initiative took over 6 years to come to fruition but will provide great benefit to Fremont County residents, from businesses relying on broadband, retirees and homebound people leveraging telemedicine options, parents working from home due to lack of childcare options, and students pursuing their education and preparing to enter a modern workforce - broadband is for everyone!

"These are the types of legacy projects that can change the trajectory of a community. In 2017, the FEDC TechSTART initiative and the City of Cañon City started a concerted effort to attract location neutral professionals to the community. We saw early success with this program that was accelerated by the pandemic and the work from home movement. I am very proud of our team and community partners who have persevered through this process to not just conduct another study but to move to action and make this project a reality. Thank you Brian Worthen and Visionary Broadband in creating a public private partnership that will benefit the citizens of Cañon City." - Ryan Stevens, City Administrator at City of Cañon City

History Colorado’s State Historical Fund and State Historic Preservation Office are deeply involved in numerous archaeology and historic preservation initiatives spanning communities across the state each year. From this long and impressive list, Emergent Campus has been selected to receive the History Colorado Board of Directors’ Award and will be celebrated as one of only five projects being honored in 2024 at History Colorado’s annual Stephen H. Hart Awards celebration.

“This year's awardees are a beautiful demonstration of how preservation combined with community can provide solutions to some of today's challenges,” said Dawn DiPrince, President/CEO of History Colorado & State Historic Preservation Officer. “We are recognizing projects that create affordable housing, build an inclusive historic record, and catalyze economic opportunity in rural Colorado.”

History Colorado Board Award: Emergent Campus | Florence, CO Originally located in Downtown Canon City, the Emergent Campus invests in rural prosperity by bringing high tech jobs to rural Colorado and providing space for innovation sector workers, remote tech workers, and other entrepreneurs. Since Emergent Campus moved into the historic Florence High School in 2019, it has actively transformed the space to provide co-working and business offices to provide an attractive solution for tech companies seeking lower operating costs. This transformed space and extended program is responsible for 80+ new tech-based jobs in Fremont County, all while maintaining the historic integrity of Florence High School. Emergent Campus is being recognized for being a strong proponent of adaptive reuse and its commitment to historic preservation and effort to have the Florence High School Building listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to the work done in Florence, the Emergent Campus is working to apply their successful model of adaptively reusing historic buildings to generate tech sector jobs to Trinidad. Using a variety of funding sources – and strategic partnerships with Trinidad State College and local school district – this future extension of Emergent Campus is intended to provide education and job opportunities that are currently not available in Trinidad and will be housed at Trinidad's historic Park School.

"Colorado has a special relationship with historic hotels. From Telluride’s New Sheridan to Durango’s Strater Hotel to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park - among other examples. They can serve as the focal point of a town's business district, peeling back a town's history and allowing guests and residents to transport themselves back in time. An ambitious historic hotel renovation is underway in Fremont County, where one of Colorado’s ten oldest hotels is getting more than a simple makeover. By Connor Shreve."
