Congratulations to newest Master Gunners Romeo 8 in the force. Class 23-002 you guys are awesome and you did extremely well going through the course. Very proud of each and every one of you.
Sad to see another great instructor leave the school house but also happy as the army is getting another valuable commodity of a leader in the force. SFC Gregory Morgan will sure be missed from his insight to his jokes and his absolute demand to inspire and challenge students to be their best. Great job Greg you are exceptional. Safe travels and Good luck brother

Class 23-001 did a amazing job and made it all the way through. They selected SFC Gregory Morgan as the instructor of the cycle and as usual he built a great relationship with the students and molded and developed them above standard. Just want to say thank you to Gregory Morgan for his outstanding work. Would also like to thank SSG Tony Wilson, SSG Joseph Faubus and SSG Sean Hanks as without them this course would fail and they are vital to the success of this course and others. Class 23-001 go forward, make it happen and be the leaders I know you to be. Big shout out to CSM Reyes for his speech, motivated the entire Brigade to be better leaders for their organizations. Overall great job everyone. Without you we would all fail. One team one fight.
Come one come all to the graduation of SMGC class 23-001. Franks Auditorium, Long Hall @1230
What started as a Maverick Troop tradition in 2020: Stache-Tober, has been continued by SMG. This year we carried on all the way through No Shave November, here we see the final results. See below for award winners
Class 23-001 has completed the range portion of the Stryker Master Gunner Course. We give the students a chance to experience a small, platoon sized gunnery and deal with issues here with instructors mentorship before going out to the force. The ability to make mistakes and have the time and patience to stop and reflect on the decisions made is intended to produce adaptive Master Gunners able to run towers in adverse conditions.
This past Monday SSCC 23-001 graduated, earning the R4 ASI. The course gives students a foundational knowledge of the Army Engagement Process and culminates with an abbreviated Table VI fired from a Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle. Though the class size was small, their personality was mighty, we thank the students for making the experience special.
Fresh Meat: the newest SMG instructor; Tony "Two Rings" Wilson, cuts his teeth on ATGM Fire Control System. The topic is challenging but SSG Wilson proved he is a very capable instructor during rigorous checkout procedures. Started with 11 and we will finish with 11, good luck men.
Our graduates can tell you and your commanders exactly how to beat this.... thing/contraption
Instructors were excited to get back in class and back on the vehicles for class 23-001, the largest class the schoolhouse has had in three years: 11 students. 23-001 includes the first Marine student and our second 74D. Keep up the fire and we will graduate 11 fellas!
Bit of a read but if you care about any of the folks, please read til the end.
"We've all heard so many nice things about MSG Eckert, let's all say something we hate about him..."
There's not much you can hate about Zack Eckert, a fantastic boss, a hell of a mentor. Zack will be missed by all at the U.S. Army Stryker Master Gunner School. Indeed the only reason there is still a Stryker Master Gunner program can largely be attributed to MSG Eckert's tireless efforts. Thank You.
SFC Cress Codling has bridged the gap from Team 1.0 all the way to 3.0. He taught most of the instructors in the photos below both in school and afterword, when we returned to carry on the program. His experience and stalwart attitude braced the branch through Covid and the MGS Divestiture, truly turbulent times. Though a notorious cheater at COD, Cress could really spin a yarn, we will miss your raunchy stories.
Last and Least is SFC Mark Walton, he really did a job. Definitely in the Army.....
Just kidding Mark, he revamped the MGS program drastically improving the passing rates for some of the hardest tests on Ft Benning. We won't miss Mark at all however, mostly because he still works in the Squadron.
Sharpening the spear: SSG Wilson conducts hands on exercises on the ATGM with emphasis on component identification, description, and location.
*Flash message*
Tomorrow during the maneuver conference, we will announce the timeline for the awarding of ASI R8 to all 11B graduates. For those who have attended the course, thank you for your patience! For those waiting for the sign to come through, this is it!
-MSG Eckert
SSCC class 22-005 Graduated today!
This week the Stryker Branch conducted a qualification range with SSCC students. It was a status quo range except for the fact it was the last time that "The Boss" MSG Eckert would participate. That being the case we all came together to remove administrative duties from MSG Eckert and gave him a chance to get his hands dirty and train some 2LTs again.
