Assisted Living Facilities vs. Residential Care Homes:

Since both residential care and assisted living offer similar services, you may be wondering how they differ from one another. As you may have noticed, both facilities are very much alike. There are two things that differentiate one from the other – the size of the facility and the cost. Assisted living facilities are typically bigger than residential care homes when it comes to the number of residents.

The level of care in residential care homes are more personal since one caregiver is assigned to six or eight senior residents. If your elderly loved one is still active, and enjoys personalized care, a residential assisted living facility is a great option!

When Is It Time For Assisted Living?

Some families may struggle with the decision to transition a parent to senior assisted living, but there may come a time when it’s no longer safe for a senior loved one to live on their own. As you call or visit, pay attention to signs that your aging relative may need help.

A decline in cognition — the ability to think clearly, learn new skills, and remember — may lead to unsafe and sometimes life-threatening behaviors. When visiting a parent, look for signs of cognitive impairment:

-Do they seem more forgetful or confused?
-Have you noticed mood swings or changes?
-Do they often lose their train of thought during conversations?
-Are they getting lost in familiar places?
-Do they seem more anxious or irritable?
-Do they lack energy or motivation?
-Are they depressed?

You may also notice changes in your loved one’s appearance and hygiene that indicate it may be time to talk about a different living arrangement. For example, you may notice your parent has unintentionally lost weight quickly. Sudden weight loss in seniors could be a sign of a serious medical problem, but it may also signal depression, cognitive problems, or behavioral changes that impede good nutrition, like limited mobility or financial constraints.

If a loved one who’s typically well-groomed looks disheveled, or if their usually clean house seems cluttered, dirty, or disorganized, these could be warning signs that it may be time for assisted living.

We are a small, 8 bed home located just outside Fort Collins. We value compassion and independence both for our Residents and Staff. This is a calm, relaxed environment where you will have plenty of time to develop relationships with the Residents.

Full or Part-Time QMAP/caregiver. Days/evenings/weekends/nights. This is a beautiful home environment where caregivers can provide more individualized/meaningful care.

Assisted Living can be an excellent option for many seniors.

The assisted living level of care is for seniors who could be frail, but do not need 24-hour medical nursing care. They sometimes need help with activities such as housecleaning, meals, dressing, and medication reminders and monitoring. The average assisted living resident is 84 years old and needs help with two or three of the activities mentioned above.

Some seniors move into assisted living because living alone may not be safe for them due to the risk of falling, increased memory difficulty or the risk of taking the wrong medication or an incorrect dosage. Many times moving into assisted living can help you avoid the need for a nursing home altogether.

Small 8 bed Assisted Living with a comfortable setting and relaxed environment seeking QMAP/Caregiver to assist Residents in ADL's such as meal prep, laundry, dressing and bathing, light housekeeping, administering medicine, and social activities. Given the size of the home, you will have plenty of down time in order to develop relationships with the Residents. We are looking for a PT 15-35 hours per week. We try to keep regularity in the schedule. The shifts are:

7a-3p, 8a-12p, 3p-7p, 5p-10p, 10p-7a
