“As the week of honoring our nation’s fallen Law Enforcement comes to an end, I am once again taken back to the day when Micah gave his life in the line of duty. I still remember the phone call, the drive to the hospital that felt like an eternity, the line of Officers and Deputies down the halls of the hospital and the smell of blood as I kissed Micah’s forehead for the last time. The pain isn’t any less real 5 years later. But I cling to the way Micah’s life and sacrifices are continually honored by those that loved him deeply and many who never knew him. I see his sacrifice honored by the thousands of brave men and women who pursue a calling, knowing it may require them to pay the ultimate price if called upon to do so. Micah’s life, and the lives of thousands of other Officers, motivates me everyday to do my part in supporting the noble mission of Law Enforcement.
