Did you know .. (Some) of our mittens are made in the backwoods of the Colorado mountains with a sewing machine and a generator?
This year, I stayed 2 weeks and made over 50 pairs of mittens!

Little Collin! His mom has been asking me for no thumbs, just slip on mittens for him. Who could say NO to this sweetie! I FINALLY made them in time for the frigid temps and was able to meet my newest customer this weekend! Doesn’t he look cozy!!

I want to share with you what I have been doing since November when I saw these at a craft show. I wanted a pair so bad and also to make them for Christmas presents. I came home and searched online for a pattern. Anyone who knows me, knows that my mom has sewed quilts forever and anytime she wanted to teach me I RAN the opposite direction! So for me to do this, I had a lot of anxiety. But my ever loyal cheerleader of a husband backed me up 100%. "I think we have a sewing machine, right?" . We pulled out the machine, dusted it off and said a little prayer. It worked! Ok, can I learn?
To make this work, I needed wool sweaters, so the search was on in every thrift shop in the 3 town area. We had luck and fun searching through to find sweaters with a pattern or a great color. I bought so many, I had enough to make presents and MORE (light bulb comes on) like craft shows? Unfortunately, I was a little late to do that this year, so now I am proceeding, but have to wait a whole year til craft show season.
Several tries and a huge learning curve, I started making pairs that I could give as presents. I didn't say a word to my mom, even though I could have used her help, I pushed forward. Christmas came..Know what? I impressed her! I knew then, they were quality and could be sold.
So, I am going forward buying more sweaters, felting them, cutting them up, putting together the best looking colors and patterns together, making a fleece lining and hoping that warm hands = warm hearts.
