Who doesnt love optimization? This video gives us a brief look at a mechanical design optimization using SolidWorks. The video is a bit dated but still gives the basic idea. What's lost here is that this is not a simple optimization of a single variable, but a multi-objective optimization, which is a more involved process.

Good turnout today for our Jam the Gym event!!!
So Computational Urbanism is the order of the day for class. Students in the "Intro to Algorithmic Design" class will be using creative coding to drive the CAD modeling - and in the process, they will be creating models of cities. We've got 50 minutes to create a minimum of 1000 buildings complete with streets and open spaces.
This is gonna be fun!!!

It's 2nd semester - and the 3d printers are coming to life again!
Our Intro to Algorithmic Design is ready to start working on their first projects. They spent a few days learning the basics of modeling (a crash course!) and now they are ready to start their journey. Remember, this is an open enrollment course - so we have a LOT of students who are learning modeling and programming for the very first time. Over the course of the next 12 weeks, they will learn how to use computers to create some amazing art!
Mr Liebniz and Neo paid us a visit today as we started on vectors and matrices today in Modeling and Simulation II class.
Pretty proud of these kids. Many came in despising the thought of Algebra. Not only did they conquer that, they got through Geometry, then Trig, then Calculus, and now Matrix Algebra. It takes courage to learn - these kids are courageous and almost ready for the world! ♥ 13 Weeks left!
How I love the spring semester! It's time for CAD260-Intro to Algorithmic Design. This is an open enrollment course that brings in some of the artistic and creative minds on campus to explore the endless possibilities of creative coding. In our 2nd class, we will explore line coding as a creative medium. As a small taste of things to come, we'll look at a brief example of Agent-Based Design using 150 turtles as our volunteer agents. This is fun....

In our program, we celebrate Fridays!!!!!
After moving the laser into the new lab, we were able to get everything back up and running! One of the fun things to do with this laser is burning designs into glass and mirrors. But they are surprisingly difficult to photograph without (a) putting yourself in the shot (b) getting the details to show. But some backlighting did the trick!
Kudos to Rochelle Green and Jennifer Dutcher for the awesome signage. They developed designs for each of the spaces in our Arts and Technology building. The results were amazing! Thanks to both of you!
Check out this great video walk through by our own Paul DeCoursey! It does a great job of showing the new space we are moving into. And if you look really close, you may see your fearless leader unpacking one of the newest 3d printers. ;-)
Speaking of AI...have you checked out the newest apps that are doing really great stuff in the creative fields? I did this one using Midjourney with little effort at all and voila, I'm ready for fame and fortune. But seriously, this will be a great discussion point this Fall. Is this really a creative work? And if so, who is the artist? Food for thought!
We are pleased (and excited) to announce that we have been selected to participate in a study by Northwestern University in Chicago. The study will focus on combining Artificial Intelligence (AI) with modeling in design work!
Oh, and I should have mentioned this, too..... Stay tuned!!
The ATB building is moving towards opening day - and we are getting settled into our new home for CAD and VR! Equipment is still arriving and being moved in - but here are the most recent photos!
