William G. & Marlys Smith Simulation Center at Iowa Central
The William G. and Marlys Smith Simulation Center is a health care training facility located in Fort Dodge.
We host students from Iowa Central as well as outside organizations interested in Continuing Education Hours or utilization of our facility. The William G. & Marlys Smith Simulation Center is a 10,000 square foot medical training facility operated by Iowa Central Community College. Within the Simulation Center you will find the following Sim Labs:

Medic 3 students came to visit us a couple times before holiday break! They had some hands on experience with OB calls thanks to our birthing simulator Veronica.

Radiology students were at Sim this morning. They learned about taking patient vitals and then tried on eachother. With the supervision of their instructor Lindsay and our Coordinator Julie, they were also able to learn about and practice vein puncture on our manikins and then try once on eachother.
We will be opening our campus apartments to community members affected by the flood waters! Julie and Sammie were checking out the new dental chair that was donated to our facility by Dr. Nick Drzycimski and Dr. Maria Becker at Rolling Hills Dental Clinic. This will provide additional learning experiences for our students in the Iowa Central Community College Dental Hygiene Program.

Radiology students were here today practicing their IV starts. They were able to practice on a child and small sized IV arm and two adult sized IV arms. Then had a fun group photo!

We had Dr. Croo from UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge and a few medical students from Des Moines University come to visit us today at Sim. They ran through a trauma scenario with our Gaumard Adult Male manikin Hal, learned about chest tube placement, and ran through a few IV starts.
While here they also were able to speak with our new AI Gaumard manikin Hank.
Our simulation center is the first in the state of Iowa to have an AI capable Adult Male Simulator from Gaumard. He can mimic signs of stroke such as right and left sided facial drooping, seizures, sweat, cry, as well as move his right arm, shake hands, reach up to his chest and so much more. They went on a tour of our center with Cassandra; Jack introduced them to Hank, our newest high fidelity simulator; and also learned about healthcare careers with guest speakers from Iowa Central Community College and UnityPoint Health - Fort Dodge
