Kristin Brown, License Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) has joined the behavioral health team at Community Health Center of Mason City. Kristin grew up twenty miles north of Mason City in Northwood, Iowa. Brown achieved her Bachelor of Arts of Psychology from Graceland University. She then completed her Bachelor of Arts in Human Services before attending Buena Vista University where she got her Master of Science in Education and Mental Health Counseling. After completion of her education Kristin then applied her education in a variety of settings including residential care, outpatient mental health, behavioral intervention services, foster care support, youth shelters, and community college residence. Her personal mission is to assist others in developing self-acceptance and hope while overcoming the past, being mindful of the now, and empowering for the future. Brown enjoys working with clients of all ages and utilizing a multi-theoretical approach including techniques and skills from a variety of theories such as cognitive behavior therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, sand tray, parent-child interaction therapy, aggression replacement training, motivational interviewing, and trauma informed therapy. While Kristin is not at work she enjoys spending time with others, reading, completing puzzles, and being around animals.
