TODAY is National Relaxation Day—a perfect day to stop and smell the roses (or daisies…). If you work for a mission-driven organization like we do, you know how much passion and energy we put into each and every day. It’s vital work but it’s also important that we make time to rest and relax enough to recharge our batteries and not burn out.

So today, make time to kick that foot up on a chair or ottoman, take a deep breath, and think of your favorite places. You can even get your nails done!

The CHF Orlando Resource Center is where young people can get a moment of respite. Youth from the community experiencing homelessness and housing instability are welcome to drop in to take a shower and use the internet and phone service to search for employment or do schoolwork. At the Resource Center, they also receive items such as clothing, nutritious lunch, hygiene products, and information about all of the services that CHF Orlando has to offer.

All services provided by Covenant House Florida to youth are free of charge. This is made possible by the philanthropic support from our generous donors, volunteers, and supporters.

TODAY is International Youth Day! For over 20 years, the United Nations has designated this day to recognize today's youth as tomorrow's leaders, thinkers, and creators.

Covenant House Florida in Orlando would like to celebrate this day by sharing the fun we had at the recently held Summer Bash for our young people. It was a great day filled with fun and entertainment as well as fellowship and community, THANKS to the collaborative efforts of several community organizations.

Youth were treated to lunch, snacks, raffle drawings, and gift bags with dignity items and other essentials provided by Innovation Church. They also brought items for the food pantry and clothing closet. Fleet Djs 🎧🎤🎧🎤🎧 entertained youth, volunteers, and staff with a great mix of music from the 80s, 90s, and beyond! They also brought additional donations for our young people as well in the form of clothing, food, and dignity items. Josh Solomonn of Varsity Barbershop provided haircuts for any young person interested in getting a fresh look. LGBT+ Center Orlando - The Center provided HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis testing as well as a general health checkup. After the event, Innovation Church volunteers did some necessary building maintenance.

The youth were able to create a tie-dyed t-shirt, paint a block for donors to sponsor or create a masterpiece on canvas. There was a photo booth area where youth could choose from fun accessories and receive polaroids of themselves. A manicure station was also provided where youth could get their nails done.

We are grateful for the volunteers who made this day possible and to all of our young people who are working hard towards their happy, healthy independence, whatever that looks like for them.

AUGUST is National Wellness Month

At Covenant House Florida, we put the health of our young people first by providing an on-site health program which recognizes and responds to the actual and potential health and medical problems of youth experiencing homelessness.

Many youths we serve who have lived on the streets typically have a history of trauma and neglect which forced them to the streets. As a result, they often face mental health challenges ranging from depression, drug addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Youth who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness receive or are referred to psychiatric and medication management services.

Learn more about the medical and mental health services we provide youth and how you can help to sustain these services: https://www.covenanthousefl.org/fort-lauderdale-services
