Despite Hurricane Beryl’s impact on sections of Jamaica’s south coast, the tourism industry remains resilient. The Ministry of Tourism swiftly activated the Tourism Emergency Operation Centre (TEOC) on July 2 to coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts. In collaboration with ODPEM’s National Emergency Operations Centre, TEOC ensured continuous communication and support for our sector.
“I have carried out post-hurricane impact assessments in the resort areas along with the Tourism Product Development Company’s (TPDCo) product quality team and other Ministry officials, which have given us a clearer picture of the steps that will have to be taken to address any concerns that have arisen,” Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett said during the closing address of the 2024 Sectoral Debate.
To aid recovery, the Ministry has permitted up to $2 million from the Spruce Up fund allocated to each MP to be directed towards relief efforts in the hardest-hit constituencies, with an additional $1 million for other affected areas. Together, we rebuild and support our Jamaican community.
Grenada is Open!
“Grenada is open and the flights started coming back the day after the storm. Ninety-eight percent of attractions are operational and all hotels are open.
Our sister islands like Carriacou and Petite Martinique didn’t fare so well as every house was either damaged or destroyed. It will take a good while for that to be rebuilt but we will rebuild guild stronger and remain resilient.”
“As a tourism entity Grenada Tourism Authority has identified the importance of the travel advisors and the significant contribution they make to the GDP towards the tourism sector. Travel advisors are identified as a core link in the distribution channel for Grenada as a tourist destination.
The Grenada Tourism Authority has invested a significant amount of funds in travel advisors, ensuring that they are knowledgeable about the destination and providing them with the relevant tools to sell Grenada. “

Today, we celebrate freedom and reflect on the rich history and contributions of Caribbean people in the United States.
Juneteenth marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in 1865. The Caribbean community has played a significant role in shaping the cultural, social, and economic landscape of the United States.
From the early days of migration, Caribbean people have brought vibrant cultures, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Many Caribbean immigrants came seeking better opportunities and freedom from colonial rule, contributing to the nation's diversity. Influential figures such as Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican political leader, and Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman elected to the U.S. Congress of Barbadian and Guyanese descent, have been pivotal in the fight for civil rights and equality.
As we celebrate Juneteenth, we honor the spirit of freedom and the enduring legacy of Caribbean Americans who have enriched the fabric of the United States. Let’s continue to strive for a world where freedom, equality, and justice prevail for all. ✊🏾 🌟
Happy Juneteenth!
