This Sea Sunday, let's remember the 1.9 million seafarers around the world and the crucial work they do. This is a time to lift them up in prayer, give thanks for their service, and support them through donations to our global welfare initiatives.
Our 2024 Sea Sunday theme is "Calming the Storm" - a vitally important message as seafarers face growing threats like the ongoing Red Sea crisis, which has put them directly in the path of missiles and piracy attacks.
But the storms seafarers encounter aren't just global in scale. Individual challenges like sickness, unemployment, bereavement, and the stress of separation from family can also take a major toll on their mental and physical well-being.
That's why our work at Seafarers' House in Port Everglades providing practical, emotional, and spiritual support to crew members and their loved ones is so crucial. Your donations enable us to be a steady presence, calming the storms they face and ensuring no seafarer is left to weather the challenges alone.
Please give generously this Sea Sunday to support our mission of caring for those who care for the world. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of seafarers worldwide. 💯⚓️🚢
Today our Pastoral Visits with Chaplain Sandy, Chaplain Peter and Ship Visitor Michelle to the MV Vannutu, MV Bahamas Express, MV Hoegh, and the MV Vi-Nais. At Seafarers’ House we have a team of chaplains, pastoral counselors and Ship visitors who work to meet the spiritual and emotional needs of visiting seafarers. Some of the key pastoral care services we provide include:
- One-on-one counseling sessions with chaplains to discuss matters of faith, morality, or personal struggles
- Group worship services and religious observances for different faith traditions
- Access to religious texts, prayer materials, and other spiritual resources
Emotional/Mental Health Support:
- Counseling for issues like homesickness, stress, depression, or interpersonal conflicts
- Referrals to local mental health professionals if more intensive support is needed
- Crisis intervention and su***de prevention assistance
Practical/Social Support:
- Help navigating local resources and services (medical care, legal aid, transportation, etc.)
- Opportunities for social interaction and community building among seafarers
- Assistance with communication back home to family members
Our pastoral team aims to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental presence to support the holistic wellbeing of visiting seafarers. Our work is to address the unique challenges and stresses that come with life at sea.
This Sunday, July 14th, is Sea Sunday! 🙏⚓️
Sea Sunday is the day when many Christian churches take time to remember and pray for seafarers and their families. It's a chance to give thanks for the invaluable work that seafarers do, transporting goods across the world to keep our global supply chains moving.
There are lots of great ways for churches to get involved in celebrating Sea Sunday:
💒 Incorporate special prayers, readings, and sermons focused on seafarers during the worship service
💰 Take a special collection or offering to support seafarers' welfare organizations and port ministries
🗣️ Invite a seafarer or representative from a local maritime ministry to share their experiences
🎥 Use videos, photos, and other visuals to help the congregation better understand life at Sean
Let's come together this Sunday to lift up and support our hardworking seafarers! 💙⚓️
Sea Sunday Resources - NAMMA Sea Sunday is the day which many Christian Churches set aside to remember and pray for seafarers and their families and give thanks for their lives and work. It is officially held on the second Sunday in July, though there is significant flexibility to accommodate other local celebrations.
Meeting Sarah Alexander, the Port Everglades Terminal LLC intern, was a fantastic experience. We discussed the Seafarers’ House Center’s mission, ministry, and diversity, as well as our love for all seafarers who visit Port Everglades. We welcome everyone, regardless of religion or background - our center embraces all equally. Sarah, we look forward to you visiting cargo ships soon with our pastoral team to further your journey in the maritime industry. We hope you can become a future spokesperson for the men and women of Port Everglades and The Seafarers’ House.
Today, part of our pastoral team, ship visitors Michelle and Phill visited several ships around Port Everglades. They are wonderful ambassadors, passing the word about our services and letting the seafarers know that the Seafarers’ House is their home away from home. Their welfare is our priority. We provide free transportation back and forth from their vessels to our center, where they find free wifi, a comfortable environment with some games for them to enjoy their free time, a retail store, money exchange services and a café restaurant.
Our goal is to provide a true home-away-from-home experience for the hardworking men and women in our port. Thank you Michelle and Phill you are a very crucial part of our team. ⚓️🛳🚢
Send money home safely with our trusted services at Seafarers' House. 🌊⚓️

But your service goes beyond just transporting cargo - you are also the stewards helping to keep our oceans clean and sustainable. Your dedication to this vital role is deeply appreciated.
We know the challenges you face, but please know that your efforts make an immeasurable difference. Thank you, seafarers, for all that you do. The world is better because of you.

Here are some important to remember, courtesy of the Seafarers Hospital Society:
1. **Wear a Life Jacket**: Always wear a life jacket when working on deck or when there is a risk of falling overboard. It could save your life.
2. **Follow Safety Procedures**: Familiarize yourself with the ship's safety procedures and emergency drills. Know your role and be prepared to act quickly in an emergency.
3. **Stay Alert**: Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times. Watch out for potential hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor.
4. **Maintain Equipment**: Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition. Report any issues or malfunctions immediately.
5. **Practice Good Housekeeping**: Keep your work area clean and organized to minimize the risk of slips, trips, and falls.
6. **Communicate Effectively**: Communicate openly with your colleagues and superiors about safety concerns or incidents. Teamwork is essential for maintaining a safe working environment.
7. **Prioritize Rest and Wellbeing**: Make sure to get enough rest and take breaks to avoid fatigue, which can increase the risk of accidents.
Remember, safety at sea should always be the top priority. By following these tips, you can help protect yourself and your fellow seafarers.

Our Seafarers’ House pastoral team and the Accelleron Industries Volunteer Team had a wonderful visit to the bulk carrier ship MV Weco Karoline during its port call at Port Everglades. The ship had just completed a long 25-day voyage from Turkey, where it had transported a cargo of cement. The ship’s crew was very welcoming and took great pride in showing the visiting team around their vessel. They spent time getting to know all of us, which made us feel truly welcomed and like part of the crew’s regular routine. This personal interaction and hospitality from the crew contributed to an enjoyable and meaningful experience.
