Gold Point Acupuncture
Healing begins here.
“How does Acupuncture work?”
In TCM, we say acupuncture moves energy and blood that may be stuck and causing pain or disorder.
In conventional/western anatomy and physiology: Acupuncture stimulates points on the surface of the skin - acupuncture points - that have the ability to alter biochemical and physiological conditions in the body. Inserting needles at these points stimulates sensory receptors.
This stimulates nerves that send impulses to the hypothalamic-pituitary system in the brain.
The hypothalamic-pituitary glands are responsible for controlling neurotransmitters (like serotonin and endorphins).
Endorphins are our body’s natural pain relief system (thought to be 200 times more powerful than morphine!).
Endorphins also play a big role in our hormonal system- which is why acupuncture works effectively in treating conditions like infertility and PMS, as well as back pain, arthritis, elbow pain, etc!
The hormones released as a result of the treatment relax the body, and regulate serotonin in the brain, which affects emotional states.
Other effects include increased circulation, decreased inflammation, relief of muscle spasms and increased T-cell count, which supports the immune system.

Simple and Free (or inexpensive) Ways to Improve Your Health in 2024:
Happy New Year! 🎊 First, thank you for being here. As many of you know, I have been on maternity leave and in full transparency, didn’t have the capacity to contribute quality information here a lot of the time! I’m intentional about what I share and I think there’s soo much info. here now I don’t like to add unless I think it will be of-value.
Child rearing is a lot of work- mentally, emotionally, physically so major props to anyone who has done or is doing it.
That said, I am feeling inspired now to share information again and keep you updated on new offerings I’m planning for this year.
Welcome to all of the new followers and lots of love to everyone who has been here from the beginning as well! Thank you for your support!
I wish you all a safe, healthy and joyful year.
Now, onto the post… 😄
Simple Things That Will Make a Big Impact On Your Health:
1. Get outside. Try to incorporate as much natural light into your day that you can, but even 5-10 minutes in the morning is great. Sit outside and spend as much time in nature as you can.
2. Sleep. Prioritize it. Shut off all screens a few hours before bed and read.
3. Eat real food.
4. Move Your Body. It can be a 10 minute walk, but just commit to it every day (or most days!)
5. Incorporate mediation or breathing exercise every day.
6. Hydrate hydrate hydrate. Drink plenty of water, add a quality electrolyte if you’d like.
There’s a lot of noise and gadgets and people telling you things you need this time of year, it’s a helpful reminder to go back to basics if you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start.
Wishing you a healthy, happy New Year!
💛Olivia

TCM Tips for surviving cold & flu season: 🤧
In TCM the respiratory system is a little bit weaker in the Fall and more susceptible to imbalance. The drier weather, lack of sunlight, and richer foods can contribute to more frequent allergies, colds, flu, etc.
🍂 warm it up! Focus on more warming, nourishing foods like cooked vegetables, soups, warm beverages like tea and water with lemon
🍂 cover up! When you start to feel the Fall breeze, time to grab the light sweaters, jackets and scarves to help keep your body warm and protected
🍂 don’t sleep with a fan
🍂 limit sugar and dairy
🍂 get in the sunlight as much as you can
🍂 gentle exercise
🍂 rest and de-stress often!
🍂 tune-up the body with Acupuncture, herbals and proper vitamin and mineral supplementation

"Acupuncture is widely known for its effectiveness in the treatment of pain. Its unique role in reducing suffering in patients experiencing pain is one of the main reasons it has become so popular around the world. The research is plentiful on the effects of acupuncture on specific painful conditions, as can be seen throughout this website. For acute pain, a systematic review of 13 trials found that acupuncture was more effective than both sham needling and injection with painkillers."

Another study in the journal, Current Opinion in Anesthesiology, in the paper titled ‘Acupuncture for Chronic Pain: an Update and Critical Overview’ concluded that “mounting evidence supports the effectiveness of acupuncture to treat chronic low back, neck, shoulder, and knee pain, as well as headaches. Additional data are emerging that support the use of acupuncture as an adjunct or alternative to opioids, and in perioperative settings.”

“Immediately after 8 weeks of acupuncture treatment, the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) sub-scores and the depression scores for the patients had statistically decreased compared to the scores before acupuncture treatment; moreover, 8 weeks later, these scores remained stable. Compared to the neural responses before the acupuncture stimulation, those after the acupuncture treatment were significantly higher in the thalamus, cingulate gyrus, anterior cingulate, lingual gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus, lateral globus pallidus, mammillary body, middle temporal gyrus, cuneus, and fusiform gyrus. Finally, a positive correlation was found between the UPDRS and the mean magnetic resonance signal change for the thalamus.”

Research suggests that around 30% of the global population suffers from some form of anxiety.
According to the most up to date evidence, acupuncture is an effective treatment for anxiety.
In 2017, The Acupuncture Evidence Project, co-authored by Dr John McDonald, PhD and Dr Stephen Janz,4 was published, providing an up-to-date comparative review of the clinical and scientific evidence for acupuncture.
This comprehensive document, updating two previous reviews, determined that acupuncture is moderately effective in treating anxiety according to high level evidence.5 Their evidence included a 2016 systematic review with over 400 randomised patients that concluded that ‘the effects from acupuncture for treating anxiety have been shown to be significant as compared to conventional treatments.’6 The largest of these studies, which included 120 randomized patients, found that acupuncture had a large effect on reducing anxiety and depression compared to conventional treatment involving pharmacological approaches and psychotherapy, with over twice the reduction in symptoms.7
