We have relaunched scParents.org, a statewide parenting website! 🎉
The site helps families find the information, support, and resources to help their children thrive. It offers insight into common parenting topics, an online resource directory, local events and class listings, and parent-to-parent advice.
The goal is to help parents at any step of their parenting journey, from pregnancy to the teenage years and beyond.
Check out the site and follow at SC Parents!

Learning to handle your emotions is a lifelong process. Establishing a strong foundation in childhood promotes a child’s social, emotional and language development. 👨👩👧👦
Children learn by watching and modeling their parent’s behaviors, including how to emotionally self-regulate.
Consistently showing your child their feelings are normal, through words or actions, validates their emotions. When you talk about feelings together, you show them that doing so is safe and acceptable. 🤍
It can be extremely challenging to stay calm when your child is sad, angry or frustrated, but some strategies can help:
✅Step aside to regulate your emotions before speaking or acting
✅Before problem-solving, validate their feelings to make them feel understood
✅Use a feelings/emotion chart to show how to connect their feelings to words
✅Identify what triggered the emotion by calmly asking questions

The process to becoming a foster parent does require time and patience, but the instantaneous love you share with a child in a vulnerable situation is immeasurable. 💙
