It was an absolute honor to receive a unit coin from Naval Special Warfare Group 4 Human Performance this weekend after teaching a private course on base in Virginia Beach. 🇺🇸

Physical therapists from the Army and Navy Special Operations along with Air Force F-22 Fighter Wing as well as the Navel Medical Center Portsmouth and McDonald Army Medical Clinic, all in attendance.

I am humbled and grateful to teach a group like this additional skills that will be put to use keeping our nation’s warriors and special operators healthy and performing at their best.

The Wait Is Finally Over

After closing the office for many weeks, we are finally back! Dr. Lineberger is back in the office now and Dr. Zacharko will be back in the office starting June 1st. Both will be starting with a limited, staggered schedule and working towards a full schedule by July (hopefully). The staggered schedule will ensure that only 1 therapist and 1 patient is in the office at a time thus even further limiting patient contact with each other.

--Update for all of our valued patients--

As of now, we will remain open and continue to provide care to those of you that need treatment for your pain and injuries. In these uncertain times, I want you to know that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safest treatment environment and to uphold the VIP feeling that OPTC is built upon. Since inception, I have personally cleaned our office top to bottom weekly. We have always maintained a superior degree of cleanliness including changing all linens, sterilizing all treatment tools with disinfectant and cleaning all treatment tables with Norwex and disinfectant after/before each patient. We will continue to uphold this high standard but will be even more vigilant cleaning other touched surfaces in treatment rooms, the waiting room & bathroom as well as at the point of sale going forward.

As those of you that have experienced treatment at OPTC know, each patient is one-on-one with myself or Dr. Lineberger and there isn't any other interaction with other patients in the office during your treatment visits. While we cannot completely eliminate the risk, the confidence that you will not be in an environment with exposure to more than 1 or 2 other people during your visit is reassuring.
We certainly understand if you prefer to cancel your appointments or reschedule for after the threat is over, so you are welcome to do so without penalty. If you do plan to come in for treatment please be sensible to protect the safety of everyone by making sure that:
- You or someone you have had close contact with has not shown symptoms of respiratory illness, which includes but is not limited to coughing, chest congestion, sore throat, sneezing, and fever.
- You have not traveled internationally in the past 14 days.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any concerns or questions. I will continue to update you on future developments via email and on our social media platforms. We will all get through this together safely. Until then, stay active and stay healthy!

Is getting your neck manipulated/adjusted dangerous??? The evidence overwhelmingly supports that spinal manipulation does NOT put undue strain OR alter blood flow beyond normal to the cervical arteries. Unfortunately, most health care providers are not appropriately educated on this topic.

Proper screening and advanced skills are imperative. Fortunately, I go through all the best available research on this and much more teaching internationally for the Spinal Manipulation Institute, the leader in post graduate orthopaedic manual therapy training.

Last week I had the opportunity to go back to my roots. I was able to return to where it all started, the Biomechanics Laboratory at East Carolina University. Even better, I was able to reconnect with my mentor Dr. Paul DeVita, Ph.D. As well as being internationally known and respected in the field of Kinesiology & Biomechanics, a author of dozens of influential research publications, past-president of the American Society of Biomechanics and founder of National Biomechanics Day, Dr. D was instrumental in shaping me into who I have become today. He saw something in me early in my academic career that I didn’t even know I had. He gave me the confidence to pursue higher learning and inspired me to accomplish what I have to this point in my career. There is no substitute in life for an amazing mentor!
