I did not write this but I feel like this is perfectly said and wanted to share with you all❤️

“Just a hairdresser”

We pour our hearts and souls into helping others look their best day in and day out. Day makers and cup fillers (hopefully) to everyone who sits in our chairs.
There are no “mental health days” No PTO, no sick leave, paid vacation, maternity leave or any kind of 401K plans for us- we have to figure that all out ourselves.
We have styled hair for weddings, graduations, family photos, funerals and everything in-between. We get no-showed or canceled on last minute when we have people on waiting lists hoping to get in before some big event they have going on in their lives with not enough notice to fill those times and WE feel awful about it! We have given you a pep talk before the big interview, and cried with you when you lost someone important in your life. We shaved your head when you started chemotherapy, and helped you find a wig that would help you feel a little bit better, and a little more like yourself when you were fighting for your life. We answer phone calls, texts, emails, Facebook and Instagram messages, oh and we run those pages ourselves too. Social media is an ever changing beast which deserves a whole post about it’s challenges in itself.
We went to school like it was our job… There was a lot of knowledge learned in 1550 hours. With written and practical skill tests after completion on how to cut, color, wax, perm, straighten and style your hair, also how to do nails, and take care of them, along with how to properly take care of skin. How to use chemicals that could be harmful if not used correctly. We can’t forget all the bones and muscles in the body, along with chemistry, along with electricity, along with business, along with anatomy and physiology. Yes, it’s a lot to learn. We chose this profession because we CARE. We want you to look and feel your very best everyday! We want you to feel confident so you can have the courage to go out there in this messy, crazy world and feel like you can handle what the day brings.
We miss out on a lot of things being behind the chair most of our lives. Late nights mean we miss dinner with our family. Saturdays mean we have probably missed some family reunions, get-togethers with friends and simple things like snuggling with our kids on the couch in the morning. Our families can’t count on us being home “on time” whatever that means, because we aren’t leaving until your hair is perfect.. even though we have been defeated many times trying to please people with their inspiration pictures from Pinterest, and stubborn box dye that won’t budge no matter what we do, which again WE feel awful about because we don’t want anyone leaving our chair to be dissatisfied.
After every client, we sanitize everything with hospital grade disinfectant and in that 10 minutes we check texts, emails, and comments on our social media, check on kids at home and try to at least stay hydrated for the rest of the day. Sometimes we get to eat or p*e, and there definitely isn’t time for a whole meal but when we are eating we are also probably doing all of the above at the same time.
Hairdresser life is a crazy ride of ups, downs and corkscrews. It’s the life we chose because we see the value in each and every person who comes in the door. At the end of the day- all the highs and lows are worth it- because when we fail we still learn, when things are low they will be high again someday…
….and because YOU ARE WORTH IT…
whether or not you sit in my chair or someone else’s chair; I hope you know to appreciate others, be kind to yourself, and make the world a little better everyday. 💗
