We are deeply grateful to Marcel Webb and Dr. Dontá Morrison for sharing their powerful stories and insights at A Morning with Dr. Dontá Morrison & Marcel Webb, "Healing Together: Hope, HIV, and the Power of Community." Their vulnerability and wisdom have left a lasting impact on all of us.

Marcel courageously opened up about her HIV diagnosis in 1989, during the height of the AIDS crisis, and shared her journey of acceptance, faith, and healing. She spoke of being the only woman and person of color in support groups, yet finding her strength and purpose through it all. She asked her God, “What is it you want me to do?” and she heard very clearly, “I want you to Carry the Message." Her story reminds us of the importance of resilience, hope, and creating spaces of true inclusion.

Dr. Dontá Morrison took us through his experiences growing up gay in the Black church, and how deeply ingrained biases—many rooted in white supremacy and passed down through generations—still shape these communities today. He called attention to the difference between being tolerated and truly accepted, and how these barriers still harm marginalized individuals, particularly Black men who have s*x with men (MSM). His work to dissolve these harmful divides and create inclusive spaces of worship is essential, as he underscored how deeply faith and spirituality can affect our health and well-being.

Together, their presentations reminded us of the urgent need to expand our understanding, dissolve harmful beliefs, and infuse our communities with compassion and acceptance.

Thank you, Marcel and Dontá, for inspiring us to continue the work of building stronger, more inclusive communities where healing and hope are available to everyone.
