One of my favorite cases from 2020. 1 year out from a bicondylar tibia plateau, s/p four-compartment fasciotomies for compartment syndrome, knee-spanning external fixator, eventual ORIF and closure. Scope pics are 1 year out lysis of adhesions. You can see fibrocartilage where the fracture has healed. Last clinic video is following the LOA. Pain free and exercising. Sports guys can fix fractures, too!

I normally don’t have workout posts, but I’m hoping this will motivate some people. Less than 3 mos ago, I could barely run .25 mile without getting winded. I set a goal for myself to run a 5k in 6 weeks and and 10K in 12. Goal accomplished. Next goal is a half marathon.

What do you do when life gives you lemons? Make some freakin’ lemonade. I can’t remember a time in recent memory when we as a country have been given more lemons. In true American spirit, I know we will bounce back. Don’t quit. Don’t use this as an excuse to be unhealthy. Use it as an opportunity to spend more time with family and better yourself.

See you at the next milestone.

First urgent case on a presumed +COVID-19 patient. Steps I took:
1) put clean scrubs, N95, face shield, shoe covers, gown and gloves before any patient contact
2) immediately discarded PPE and scrubs following case.
3) washed hands immediately
4) put on clean scrubs
5) will immediately place scrubs in washer when I get home and take a shower

Am I missing anything? Hope this helps anymore of you who are taking care of these patients. Wishing you and yours safety.

Well said by Brooks. As a young kid growing up in Dumas, TX I idolized Kobe, and I would practice his fade-away in my driveway. He reached millions across the globe. What we can take away from his life was his tremendous work ethic, competitive spirit, a true passion for living, most of all his love for his family and how great of a father he was. I’m posting this quote for any of my patients or any other patients with an injury or upcoming surgery, so that Kobe’s legacy can live on and he can continuing reaching more people. Rest In Peace, Kobe. 🐍

I have the best patients! Such kind words. We’ve gotten much better with our techniques and pain control following rotator cuff repair surgery. It’s not as bad as you’ve heard!!

I think a lot of patients fear that if they come to a surgeon, we will automatically recommend surgery. My mentors taught me the best surgeons can heal people without surgery and only to perform surgery when indicated.
