A healthy diet holds promise as another tool to help mental health and well-being, according to new research. A research review found evidence improved diet may reduce depressive symptoms. The systematic review examined data from almost 46,000 participants and reported a significant reduction in depressive symptoms, but no change in anxiety, after dietary intervention. The researchers say more investigation is needed.

Expectations around the health benefits of organic food are among the strongest motivations for consumers to buy organic produce. There are some studies that show lower levels of nitrates in organic food when compared with conventionally produced food.

As nitrates have been associated with higher risks of developing gastrointestinal cancer and methemoglobinemia in children (a blood disorder where red blood cells contain levels of methemoglobin that are higher than 1%), it is obvious why consuming fewer nitrates is attractive for consumers.

In addition, the KOALA Birth Cohort Study in the Netherlands, which included approximately 2700 newborn children, found links between lower eczema rates in children at 2 years of age and the consumption of organic dairy products.

By now, you're probably aware that Whole Foods is launching a less expensive chain of sister stores that will go by the name of 365. This is welcome news for lots of consumers who felt priced out of the grocery store chain. But since the 365 announcements, one question has continually lingered: How? How will a brand that convinced us that quality comes at a price suddenly flip our expectations?

Co-CEO of Whole Foods Markets Walter Robb stepped forward with some answers. First and foremost, he wants everyone to know that the new stores, set to open in 2016, won't lower prices with lower-quality products. Robb told Food Navigator USA the 365 stores will “attack the value, quality proposition in a different way and still maintain the integrity of what Whole Foods Market stands for in the marketplace.
