Just over 300 dads at Bring your Dad to School Day at J.A. Vitovsky Elementary. Had a nice young father tell me this morning that he appreciated this program and that I was doing God's work. That is humbling and much appreciated. However, the truth is if dads didn't care so much about their kids this work would not be possible. I'm not teaching dads how to love their kids I'm giving them an opportunity to do it again and in a different way. The research is very strong. When dad's get involved in their kids education those kids have much better outcomes. Every kid on this campus has a father. That is a fact. Not every kid has a dad that is involved and not every dad has had an opportunity to do that. So yes God is blessing this work but he's blessing it with fathers that care for their kids. Anytime someone thanks me for doing these programs I tell them I'm grateful to them because if they didn't show up I couldn't work. The thing is I know they'll show up every time they're invited it's been happening for the last 25 years.

Questions for Strong Fathers (and mothers) to ask their kids each day. Works much better than "What did you do at school today?"

“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
― George Bernard Shaw
Headed into the week ready to grab it by the tail.....
The trip to the Village of Hope these past ten days marked the 20th anniversary of my first visit there. SO MUCH has changed throughout all of my visits over the past 20 years. On our first visit we were asked to plant a tree with one of the children in a basically open area of the campus between the different children's homes and visitor homes. I was fortunate enough to have Charles Bukari as my young man to plant with. I have watched this work, this tree, and this fine young man grow so much and so well over the past 20 years. Charles got his degree in agriculture like me (but not because of me). He now teaches at Hope Christian Academy and runs the newly planted school farm with his crew of wonderful young men and women from the school. I am so proud to have been along for the ride and can't wait to see what is next.
