Rank Up Tutoring

I'm Mr. Renken. Rank Up Tutoring offers Math K-10 as well as ELA Junior High and Highschool tutoring services!

A little about our newest tutor...

"Sarah Jacques, an honors student majoring in Computer Engineering with a minor in Education, is a 2023 Mathematics Honor Society student. Her pedagogical journey started at the age of thirteen, when she began tutoring students as a summer job. She has since had the privilege of assisting students from diverse ages and backgrounds in a variety of subjects, from first-grade math to high school English. Her tutoring approach is customized to each student's unique learning style, focusing on grasping the process behind a concept rather than the mere solution, and fostering lasting confidence in their abilities."

Concept and confidence based learning is the way forward.
This is how parents can Rank Up their kids' education!

08/10/2024

With the hiring of our new tutor, Ms. Jacques, Rank Up Tutoring now offers expanded Math services to reach students K-10, as well as the all-new introduction of ELA services for Junior High and Highschool grade levels!

Out first hire has been made. I am excited to announce that we will be expanding the types of tutoring services we offer within the next two weeks!

07/18/2024

Anyone interested in tutoring remotely on their own schedule can message me and I will be sure to reach out.
I’m excited to grow this business, and someone committed to academic growth in our youth is an integral part in achieving that goal.
You are expected to know how to teach/tutor at least one core subject.
Interviews will begin next week starting on Thursday.

There will be more consistent updates going forward, but I am happy to announce that the lack of updating has been due simply to the growth of business.

Mr. Renken has reached his personal limit of students.

Rank Up Tutoring is looking to hire its first employee by the end of July.

My next big step for Rank Up is introducing this tutoring business to parents who homeschool their kids.

So, if you know of any homeschooling parents, give them a shout and let them know what I do!

I grew up with a homeschool teacher during my first year or two of grade-school. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name, and I couldn't tell you a single personality trait about her if you asked. I do not want that for anyone's kid. Just like I do for my current tutees, I will teach homeschooled kids with enthusiasm and academic flexibility.
And if anyone wonders "can I really let Mr. Renken be my kid's math teacher if he has only tutored kids previously?" The short answer? Yes. I am a math teacher for Castleberry ISD, after all. Teaching math is my job, and seeing kids grow and become self-reliant in their abilities is my passion.

Call now to connect with business.

3 months ago, I followed a common goal-setting business practice and applied it to Rank Up. The goal ranking was split into 3, ranging in challenge, which became "Good", "Better", and "Best". The end of this month marks the 3 month time-stamp. So, how did Rank Up do? I am pleased to say that it has achieved the "Best" goal.

From the business standpoint I expected great things, but that still does not take away from the fact that I am, still, blown away by the quick growth of this tutoring business.
On a personal note, it is no surprise to me that my retention rate (the rate at which those who I tutor stick with me for multiple sessions) is 100%. When a parent meets me and sees the instant improvement in their kid's confidence, mathematical abilities, and self reliance they do not hesitate to continue to do what works.

These are parents who are undeniably proactive in helping their kids reach their full potential.

So, what's next? The highest goal that I set for Rank Up has been reached in the first 3 months. What's the next highest goal? Continue what works, and let parents know I'm here, ready to learn about their son or daughter's individual needs so that they can finally break through whatever academic or mental barrier that is holding them back from doing great things.

Failing student? Let's pass them by finding what root-concepts are lacking and build each one from the ground up, and get them used to success once they've gotten a taste of it!
C student? Let's unlock their hidden potential by finding an academic language that ties their lessons to real-world scenarios so they can attach themselves to the mathematical concept.
A student that is being challenged for the first time? Let's keep them at an A by reinforcing what they know and connecting it to what is new so they can continue down the road of excellence.

Whether you need someone online, in-person, or as your designated homeschool math teacher, I am ready to assist your child, just as I already have for so many parents!

10/28/2023

For those who decide they want to continue with my weekly tutoring, I am now offering 1 free session when recurring parents book 3 sessions in a month! Almost all of my parents have already committed, and they're saving 25% off!

10/28/2023

Are you wanting to try out a free tutoring session with me? Take advantage of the first hourly session online free of charge! Message me here if you, or anyone you know, are interested! You may be surprised with their increase in confidence and mathematical capabilities after just one hour!

Photos from Rank Up Tutoring's post 10/28/2023

It's been a while, but I've been busy! Over the course of the last 2 months, I have had the honor of visiting the first school I taught at to talk to parents about my tutoring business. A few weeks later, and we now have 3 students to tutor! 2 online, and 1 in-person. These students range from elementary to 8th grade! Attached to this post are a couple of reviews garnered on Tutors.com, one of the websites used to find students in need of assistance.

However, it's become something more than simply math tutoring. There are quite a few people out there capable of doing this, so why have these parents chosen to not just hire me, but stick with me week after week? The short answer? This isn't a job for me. This is a passion, and I make it visible to parents.

When a student works with me, I take time to learn about who they are and what drives them forward. When they succeed, I want them to know how proud I am of their growth.

Some of the students I work with require accommodations, whether it be a fidget, or multi-colored tools, or a constant change in activities due to a short attention span (which I, myself, struggle with). Accommodating to these individual needs allows for a personalized learning experience that I have made a personal promise to always respect and work my absolute best with.

Hiring me as a tutor is not just a boost in mathematical skills, but also a boost in confidence and helps meet their needs academically.

Americans Grade Math as the Most Valuable School Subject 09/04/2023

And it's not very close.

Americans Grade Math as the Most Valuable School Subject Americans are most likely to mention math when asked which school subject has been most valuable in their lives. English or literature is second, followed by science and history.

America's kids just suffered the biggest plunge in math scores ever recorded 09/04/2023

How important is it to you that your child avoid being a part of this statistic?
Maybe it doesn't matter too much. I mean, after all, math is just one of many subjects that they are learning about, right?
But just how important is Math to the success of their future?
See my next most recent post.
Spoilers: It's more important than any other subject.

America's kids just suffered the biggest plunge in math scores ever recorded Math and reading scores were sliding before the pandemic, but the latest results show a precipitous drop that erases earlier gains in the years leading up to 2012.

Pros and Cons of a Private Tutor 08/20/2023

Why hire a private tutor? "On average, students who receive tutoring in math and science can expect to improve their grades by up to 1.5 letter grades" according to "The Benefits of Tutoring 2023: Trends And Statistics".

Still not good enough? Let's dive a little bit into the attached article and discover the pros and cons of tutoring.

Pros
- Personal Attention: The tutor is focused solely on the child to constantly check for understanding and answer any and all questions that the student may have (no hand raising required)
- Work at their own pace: Due dates? Deadlines? Non-existent. Tutoring allows for the child to progress as their personal rate, although learning to work more efficiently is a skill that we as tutors are here to help develop
- Tailored study time: The entire tutoring session is geared towards your child's unique needs, and as such, the learning and engagement strategies are tailored to those needs
- Learn good study habits: A good tutor will also help your child learn to be self-sufficient in their studying, and help create study materials for in between sessions
- You see real results: How important is it to see your child leave behind their D or C in math and become a B or an A student? What kind of confidence boost would this yield for your child?

The pros are pretty great, but now let's take a look at the cons and see how Rank Up is prepared to kick each one of them to the curb!

Cons
- It's expensive: When I was researching how much a certified teacher should charge for tutoring, $40-$150 (KIS Academics) was the starting point. My starting point is $50 for 1 hour long session. (Rank Up wins!)
- Time Consuming: I not only offer 3 weekday evenings, but also 16 hours on weekends for tutoring sessions! That way, the student can still participate in their after school extra-curricular activities and not have to worry about their tutoring time conflicting with anything. (Rank Up wins!)
- Conflicting personalities: I have always had a strong will to make connections with all of my students, and have found success in finding ways to do just that. At the start of every first tutoring session, I will establish rapport with any and everyone, as I believe these connections are key in unlocking the maximum potential for growth and learning. (Rank Up wins!)
- Accessibility and transportation: All that's required for my online sessions is a mic and internet connection! (Rank Up wins!)
- Finding quality: I am passionate about seeing my students succeed and achieve things that they thought not possible. I am also always looking for different ways to teach and communicate different math concepts. You demand the highest quality when you book a tutoring session for your child, and I will always provide it.

I have made sure that Rank Up wins in a lot of different ways. That way, when you book a tutoring appointment for your child, you can be confident that they win too.

Pros and Cons of a Private Tutor If you are considering hiring a tutor for your child, Central Bank has an easy-to-understand list of pros and cons to help you in your decision making process.
