Eight Aggies have been awarded the Medal of Honor throughout history.

Horace S. Carswell Jr. '38, George D Keathley '37, Turney W. Leonard '42, Thomas W. Fowler '43, Eli L. Whiteley '41, William G. Harrell '43 and Lloyd H. Hughes '43 were awarded the medal for their heroic actions in World War II. Clarence E. Sasser '73 was awarded the medal for his heroic actions in the Vietnam War.

As we observe National Medal of Honor Day today, make plans to visit each of these heroes' Medal of Honor citations in the Memorial Student Center's Hall of Honor.

As a follow to my previous post: It was great to see fellow Aggie and former US Rep Louie Gohmert (also a former Texas State Judge) at the Texas Aggie Bar Association Conference. I first met him in 2009 in Washington DC while on there on behalf of the National Guard Association of Texas. He was kind enough to buy my lunch at the members cafeteria as it was my first time on Capital Hill.

I am very honored to receive this award as Alumnus of the Year from the Texas A&M School of Law!

The award is named in honor my friend and former professor, the late Judge Joe Spurlock II.

Judge Spurlock was a very special man. He served as an intelligence officer during the Vietnam War, was an Assistant District Attorney, State Legislator, Judge, Court of Appeals Justice and later a Law Professor. He also started the Asian-American Judicial Institute which helped the country of Mongolia transition from a communistic form of government to a democracy. Gigโ€™Em
