This week's recommended record is "Long Time Coming by Sierra Ferrell. The album is rooted in bluegrass with Ferrell's lovely twang, but she incorporates a wide range of genres into her sound, making her a fresh new talent in the Americana scene. She's also collaborated with Billy Strings, The Black Keys, Shakey Graves, and Zach Bryan.
You can pick up this album and thousands more in our store or online!
Back at our old location, a young Leon Bridges would sometimes come into the shop, and he’d go straight for the guitars on the wall. He’d strum a few chords and sing along with that amazing voice of his. It was something special to see that story come full circle.
Big thanks to Leon and his entourage for dropping by the store the other day. Can’t wait to see you perform at Dickies!
Dickies Arena has a an absolutely stacked lineup over the next week, with Santana and Counting Crows kicking things off tonight. What shows are you going to?

This week's recommended record is The Cars' self-titled debut from 1978. A true all-killer-no-filler record, this album contains the hits "Just What I Needed", "My Best Friend's Girl", "Good Times Roll", and "Moving In Stereo."

Have you done some digging in our bins lately? You'll find some great treasures, like this album from Grant Green.
Jazz guitarist Grant Green's fourth LP for Blue Note, 1962's Grandstand, features Yusuf Lateef on tenor sax and flute, Jack McDuff on organ, and Al Harewood on drums. Green's guitar work during this time has a lot in common with blues great T-Bone Walker, favoring melodic single-note lines rather than playing chords.
You can find this great 80's repress and more in our store and online!
FORT WORTH HISTORY - KING CURTIS
Curtis Ousley, better known as King Curtis, was born and raised in Fort Worth in 1934. He was one of the many notable musicians that came out of I.M. Terrell High School, a music program that deserves its own post in the future.
If you’re even vaguely familiar with rhythm and blues or early rock and roll, you’ve no doubt heard King Curtis play the sax. As a prolific session musician, he can be heard from The Coasters’ “Yakety Yak”, or backing Aretha Franklin on “Respect.” In fact, he was the leader of Aretha’s backing band, The Kingpins, during her legendary run of albums in the late 60’s. He also had a successful career as a frontman, with 1967's hit "Memphis Soul Stew."
He recorded with Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Duane Allman, Fats Domino, Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, John Lennon, and even a young Jimi Hendrix on Ray Sharpe’s “Help Me (Get The Feeling)” in 1966. His life was tragically cut short when he was murdered in 1971, his influence can be felt in any rock band with a sax. In 2000, he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
This week’s recommendation is the new double LP from The Decemberists, “As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again.” After a 7-year absence, the long-running indie folk-rock band stretches out their legs and explores the many facets of their career, from the jangle pop of lead single “Burial Ground” to the acoustic folk storytelling of “William Fitzwilliam”, culminating in a nearly 20-minute prog rock behemoth “Joan in the Garden,” an ode to Joan of Arc. Throughout is frontman Colin Meloy’s trademark combination of intellectualism and plain-spoken humanity, paired with a morbid sensibility. This may be their best album yet, and one of the best albums of the year.
You can get this on indie-exclusive Fruit Punch vinyl at our store, or online.
Best of luck to Team USA!
FORT WORTH HISTORY - THE JIM HOTEL
Located at 413 East Fifth Street in downtown Fort Worth, the Jim Hotel was built by black millionaire William Madison "Gooseneck Bill" McDonald in the late 1920’s. In the 1930’s, the lobby became a popular spot for jazz and blues enthusiasts, with a house band led by blues guitar legend T-Bone Walker. Black and white audiences would congregate to witness musicians like Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, B.B. King, Billie Holiday, and many others jam with T-Bone into the early morning hours.
Sadly, business declined the hotel was demolished to make room for an interstate on-ramp in the 1970’s. All that remains today is a mural outside Fort Worth Central Station, a few blocks away from where the building once stood.
RIP to a blues legend. Rest easy, John Mayall.
Looking for something new to listen to? This week's album recommendation is Beach Bunny’s 2020 debut album “Honeymoon.”
An indie pop-rock trio based out of Chicago, Beach Bunny is led by Lili Trifilio, who proudly and defiantly wears her heart on her sleeve as she navigates the ups and downs of young relationships. The band recently played in Fort Worth as the opening act for Melanie Martinez. Recommended if you like Soccer Mommy, The Beths, and Girl In Red.

New records incoming, including a couple of Texas favorites and a fresh Beatles restock! We’re open from 12-8 today for all your vinyl needs.
This week's album recommendation is The Sonics' 1965 debut, "Here Are The Sonics!!!"
One of the most electrifying bands of the 60's Pacific Northwest garage rock scene, The Sonics played punk music a full decade before punk, ripping through rock standards like "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Good Golly Miss Molly" alongside their own howling originals. Kurt Cobain and Jack White have both listed The Sonics as a major influence.
