Understanding the Will to fight helps determine whether a military unit — or a nation — stays in the fight and also how well it fights. Researchers explored this phenomenon to better understand and influence the will to fight at both the national level and at the tactical and operational levels.

Jiujitsu, gr***des and weapon retention. A police officer, a grappling practitioner, was serving a warrant for a known drug pusher fought for his life twice when the assailant tried to take his service firearm away from him. He fought him from a kimura - armbar setup from his guard then after the maximum tolerance he had no choice but to fire that shot. Before that, the suspect threw a gr***de at him while he was serving the warrant, luckily the gr***de was a dud.

Knife Fighting
Stab versus Slash:
Instructor Konrad is raising today an interesting question. What would you prefer in a life and death knife fight? STABBING or SLASHING?
Well…in this matter the opinions are very divided. After interviewing several martial arts professionals from different systems such as FMA/JKD, SILAT,
NINJUTSU, KRAV MAGA, KAPAP, KOBUDO and teachers from various BLADE systems there were different, very interesting facts pointed out.
Pro Stabbing:
-One stab could end the fight.
-Capable to inflict deep damage.
-Perfect for targeting internal organs.
Con Stabbing:
-Knife can get stuck in the body and can leave you with a trapped weapon.
-Danger of missing the vital target.
Pro Slashing:
-If cutting a vein or artery of some size a lethal outcome is likely.
-Easier to cut a big muscle or tendon to disable the attacker.
-through flowing motion multiple slashes can be performed in sequences.
Con Slashing
-Most of the slashes are simply just open the skin or fatty layer under the skin and are therefore not fatal.
-Requires a very sharp, heavier blade for deep attacks of any consequence
Let’s dig a little bit deeper. In a life and death fight we want to neutralise the opponent as quick and efficient as possible. It has to be an attack to one of the vital organs.
For that we need an accurate technique what inflicts deep damage to stop the attacker immediately. The stab is the technique which can do that perfectly and it provides more options when it comes to the stabbing tool.
Almost everything with a spike can be used as a weapon.
Some experts say in a stress situation the risk of missing a vital organ is high and therefore not enough damage is done. Well…should that be a concern for someone who practices with the knife? Maybe it depends on the implementation of stress in your training concepts?
Regarding to the slash some professionals point out a powerful slashing cut across the biceps can disable any motion of the arm and the fact its contains multiple veins it can cause rapid blood loss.
A horizontal cut across the throat will sever your Jugular Vein and cause death. It will also cut the trachea and ligaments that control the movement of the head.
There are many views about that matter from individual professionals around the world based on training, experience and feedback from high risk operatives.
How would you operate in such a precarious situation? What would be your preferred technique? Is your stab accurate enough to target vital organs or is your knife heavy and sharp enough to cut arteries, veins and tendons?
Your opinion is very welcome. Share with us your experience and feedback from other professionals on this post.

DETACHMENT
I have so many tasks on my plate, I don’t even know where to start. It’s a common complaint we hear all the time from leaders. Whether you are trying to manage a multitude of problems, or you just simply don’t know what to do next, the answer is the same: DETACH.
How do you handle multiple problems at the same time?
When you try to tackle many different problems simultaneously, what happens? You end up failing at all of them. Instead, you must implement the 3rd Law of Combat:
Prioritize and Execute.
You have to figure out what the highest priority task is and focus your efforts and resources there, and then move on to the next priority, then the next one. In order to determine what the highest priority should be, you have to detach.
Change your perspective
When you detach—when you pull yourself out of the details, it gives you better perspective on the strategic goals and what is most important. It becomes much easier to see the highest priority tasks on which to focus your effort. Detaching enables you to see the holes in the plan, where you need to vector resources to support the team, and what are the likely contingencies for which you should prepare.
Detachment is a super power
When you learn to detach, especially amid high pressure situations, enabling you to remain calm, and focus efforts on the highest priority task, you have reached the pinnacle of leadership. The ability to detach and analyze problems without getting rattled is a superpower that will enable you to lead, even when others are freaking out or falling apart. As a result, the people around you will look to you to lead when they are feeling overwhelmed, to the benefit of your team and your mission. That’s what good leadership looks like.
