A message from Arts Fort Worth Executive Director about the Fort Worth Community Arts Center
Arts Fort Worth announces that, after 22 years of incubating arts initiatives and empowering artists and performers, we will wind down our management of the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. Repairing, maintaining and managing this important 77,000 square foot public facility has presented a significant challenge, and the cost of continuing its operations has become unsustainable.
With this change, we will continue incentivizing arts and culture programs through grants, engaging neighborhoods in producing one-of-a-kind works of art through the Fort Worth Public Art program, and celebrating our arts community through the Heart of Gold awards and introduce our first-ever local arts summit in March 2025. Arts Fort Worth will passionately and purposefully continue build an ecosystem that is even more accessible, sustainable, and vibrant through advocacy, strengthening community partnerships, and resource development that meets the very real needs of the community.
Through this transition, we reflect with immense gratitude on the memories made and accomplishments achieved at the Arts Center. A heartfelt “thank you” to the people who visited the Arts Center, the artists and performers who shaped its legacy, the City of Fort Worth for granting us stewardship of this facility, the donors who supported bold new ideas, and the Arts Fort Worth staff who made each experience possible.
If you would like to support Arts Fort Worth or if you have questions about the transition, including upcoming exhibitions, programs, and productions, please visit our website at artsfortworth.org/arts-center

The exhibition 'placeshifting' presents three video works by multi-media artists Jiatong Yao and Zach Nguyen, exploring the relationships between personhood and technology. In this clip of 'I am Watching You,' Zack Nguyen reflects on his fear, anxiety, and exhaustion caused by virtual meetings during the pandemic. Concealing his identity with an augmented reality glass mask, Nguyen performs as a mysterious computer watching people’s lives and fear during isolation in their personal space through his red eyes. placeshifting Works by Jiatong “Tong” Yao and Zach Nguyen On view December 18-29, 2022
All 16 of the Original Works Series readings are on our YouTube channel! Steve Weaver tells us a bit about his play, 'Old Enough to Kill.' My play, Old Enough to Kill, is rooted in a family road trip from Ohio to California in 1970. Somewhere around Pecos County, Texas we stopped for lunch at a primitive roadside rest. It was on a hill next to a two lane highway overlooking a vast and very alien looking landscape. I don't remember many details other than the smell of the pit toilet and a dinner plate sized giant spider hanging on the fence but what stuck with me most was the feeling of isolation. That rest stop became the starting point for 'Old Enough To Kill.' I had no main characters, no plot, no story, just that rest stop. The feelings of isolation and loneliness it invoked led to Skylar and Ed, two high school seniors at the end of their time together and the start of their adult lives. Graduation is an uncertain stage in every person's life but in 1970, the year of the play, it was complicated further by the war in Vietnam and the near certainty of being drafted to fight. Although the draft has long since ended, today's teens face a similar dilemma; the social and political battles continue to rage and expectations are high. Old Enough to Kill explores how two independent individuals negotiate their futures in a world insisting on conformity. New Stories: New Futures Artist Talk with Refik Andol and Quayola
If you enjoyed seeing New Stories: New Futures at Pioneer Tower this past weekend, then meet the artists! Learn more about Refik Andol and Quayola, their process and inspiration behind "Pioneer Tower Dreams" and "Texas Surveys"!
New Stories: New Futures was a two-night event brought to you by Fort Worth Public Art, managed by the Arts Council of Fort Worth, in partnership with AURORA. This free public art event features two new artworks, commissioned by the City of Fort Worth, by international new media artists Refik Andadol and Quayola that were projected onto Pioneer Tower.
Refik Anadol's "Pioneer Tower Dreams" was created using photographs and stories sent in from Fort Worth residents, old and new, and from image collections from historical, educational, and arts organizations across Fort Worth. The soundtrack was created from the sounds of the city itself. Combining all of these through algorithms, Anadol creates what a City might look like if it "dreamed." This is your only chance to see "Pioneer Tower Dreams" in person at New Stories: New Futures August 20th and 21st. So get your FREE timed entry ticket to see Glasstire 's number one of their Top Five Art Events to see this week! Know before you go! Raul Rodriguez (@witofrito) here continuing my take over and giving you insight into my work, practice and upcoming piece for the #NewStoriesNewFutures on Aug 20-21. . For NSNF I wanted to explore Marine Park beyond what I take from it. Beyond the skate park. Did I mention I grew up in Northside? My relationship to this place extends far into my past with tons of childhood memories. Marine has a rich history that is not often talked about. For New Stories New Futures, I tapped into the community to activate a collective remembrance. Did you ever go to Marine Park? What are some of your own memories here? Leave it in the comments below! Special shout-out to my colleague: @bygermantorres for getting me the aerial views of MP. 🙏🏽 Stay tuned for more and don’t forget to check out the other artists! @huckabystudios @ciaraellebryant @jessicafuentes83 @witofrito @bernardovallarinoart @jinyahuang @jeff._.gibbons @nickbontrager @dallasaurora @drlaurencross #fwpublicart #ArtsFortWorth #PioneerTower #dallasaurora #publicart #newmediaart #fortworthculturaldistrict #fortworthartist #dallasartist #skateboardphotography #skaterboys #marineparkfw #skateboardingisfun
