Fortuna Tennis
Junior and High School Tennis in Fortuna. USTA sponsored Junior Team Tennis League.
Starting this week the plan is to have "open courts" from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday and Thursdays. Bring your own rackets if you have them. I have a supply of tennis balls and a handful of junior (for 5-8 year olds) tennis rackets. NOTE: The high school is working on their gym facilities, so there are no bathrooms available.
Coming soon, open courts. On Wednesdays and possibly Thursdays, I plan to open the courts for anyone who: 1) wants to play, 2) wants to learn to play, or 3) just wants to practice. There will be no age limit, but youth must be accompanied by parents - this will not be a camp. The open courts will start once the elementary schools finish their school year in early June. I will post again when we get closer.
The team will be getting new uniforms thanks to the generosity of Fresh on Main Street. A picture will be posted with the new uniforms. Thank you for your support!
Congratulations to Zoƫ and Leslie!! Both are now 2022 HDN Singles champions. Each won their division in hard, well played matches. Great Job both of them. Angie, Angel, Michelle, and Sabrina all played well also, but faced stiff competition.
Looking forward to the HDN doubles final coming up this week!
Congratulations Fortuna High girls tennis! They won their first match of the 2022/23 season by a score of 5 to 4. Great job singles player: Sabrina, Michelle, Leslie and Anjelica. And, winning a tight doubles match in their first ever tennis competition, Kadence and Shaylee. Awesome job by all!

This just in... My daughter and her senior friends at Fortuna High are teaching tennis to youth as their Save the World senior project. Here is their flier.
Sorry I have not posted much this season. The team did great this year! All of the top 6 players made it to the semifinals, and Daisy played all the way into the finals round for the #5 position. Great job all! What an amazing year!
First practice of the school year - Monday after school. Any interested high school girls are welcome to come out and try it. Players do need to have a physical completed as well as have their athletic contracts ready to turn in to me.
Interesting weather this morning. Everything is still very wet. No open courts this morning. Lets hope for nice weather Thursday!
Sorry guys. Monday I smashed my thumb and it is still black and blue. I can not hold a tennis racket yet, but my thumb is much better. Lets plan on next Tuesday, 11am. Enjoy AutoExpo this weekend!
Sorry all. I injured myself just enough that I will not have open courts tomorrow, Tuesday July 20th. I hope to recover in time for open courts on Thursday.
Weird weather this week. Tuesday I was able to roller the courts to make them playable. It is way too wet to do that today. So, no open courts today. Sorry.
Six showed Thursday for tennis fun. There were also visitors playing who came to Humboldt County to get out of the heat. The next open court will be Tuesday, July 6th.
One player showed today and we hit for a while. It was warm and not too windy - great for tennis. I will be back out on Thursday at 11am if others want to join.
Hi all. I was waiting for the top three courts to be put back together after they were used for wrestling. I guess that is not a priority...
For a trial run, this Tuesday and Thursday I will have open courts from 11AM to noon(ish). Come by if you want to hit a bit, get some help with your strokes, or want to have help teaching tennis to your kids. I have junior rackets available for anyone with young kids who would like to teach them tennis.
This is not a drop off camp, just a chance to play tennis.
See you Tuesday!
