How to choose the right lipstick for brighter teeth? Let your lipstick make your teeth shine.
Orange-red lips are definitely having more than their 15 minutes of fame. Today’s runway looks and glossy mags have us running to the beauty counters for these hot lipstick shades. But wearing this trendy citrus pop can be tough on your teeth. Slick it on and all that whitening 101 you've been doing disappears with just one smile. If your lipstick choice can make your teeth look less than pearly, what’s a girl to do?
When choosing your lipstick shade, keep one thing in mind – you can’t reinvent the wheel. The color wheel is the magic trick to understanding the love-hate relationship between your lipstick shade and a brighter smile.
Blue and orange/yellow are opposite from each other on the color wheel. Since opposites attract, blue tones cancel out orange and yellow tones when they sit together. Translation: lipsticks formulated with a blue base will help cancel out any orange or yellow tones on your teeth. You might consider them a quick whitening treatment in a pretty little tube.
Another tip:Get glossy: These formulas amp up the wattage of your grin, as opposed to a lipstick that's more matte, which can make lips look dry and teeth look dingy.
Exercise caution with sports drinks. The same carbohydrates that help reinvigorate leg muscles can wreak havoc on your teeth.
The high sugar content and acidity levels of sports drinks have long been linked to increased tooth decay in children, teens, and athletes. The high carbohydrate consumption, including sports drinks and bars can lower the mouth's pH below the critical mark of 5.5". This can lead to dental erosion and caries. The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. Water has a pH level of 7.
Try to cut down on the cavity-causing acids and carbohydrates in your mouth by alternating between sipping sports drinks and water. Water fights tooth decay by rinsing the acids from teeth, keeping the mouth lubricated, and aiding in the production of healthy saliva.

We asked Paula, our Registered Dental Hygienist for over 35 years, what questions her patients ask her most.
Why do I need to fix my teeth, if they don’t hurt?
Her response to this question is: you don’t want to wait until it hurts. It is better to take care of the problem while it is small.
Paula feels making dental health a habit is extremely important, force yourself daily to make brushing and flossing a routine. Take 5 minutes a day to care for your mouth. Just like the Nike commercial “Just do it”.

The popular energy drinks sipped by many athletes to increase stamina contain levels of acid that can cause tooth erosion, hypersensitivity, and staining, according to the findings of New York University dental researchers.
The beverages also can cause excessive tooth wear and may damage underlying bone-like material, causing teeth to soften and weaken, the researchers say. The drinks may also possibly trigger conditions leading to severe tooth damage and loss.
Try these options in the future to replenish your body.
According to tradition, the great English dramatist and poet William Shakespeare is born in Stratford-on-Avon on April 23, 1564. It is impossible to be certain the exact day on which he was born, but church records show that he was baptized on April 26, and three days was a customary amount of time to wait before baptizing a newborn. Shakespeare’s date of death is conclusively known, however: it was April 23, 1616. He was 52 years old.
Happy Earth Day
Do you wake up with morning headaches or a sore jaw? Maybe you have unexplained facial pain or you've noticed that your teeth are wearing down?
These are some common signs of bruxism, a condition where you grind and/or clench your teeth. Grinding is when you forcefully slide your teeth back and forth or side to side. Clenching is when you tense your jaw muscles to bite down on your teeth.
Grinding and clenching the teeth affects children and adults. While it happens more often at night (sleep-related bruxism), it can also happen when you're awake. Many people don't even know they're grinding and clenching.
Regular dental checkups are important to detect damage in the early stages.
April is Oral Cancer Awareness month. Every hour, an average of one person in the United States dies of oral or pharyngeal cancer. Here is some important information about the disease.
“Oral Cancer” refers to cancer occurring on the lips, mouth, tongue or throat. Cancer on the base of the tongue and throat area is known as oropharyngeal cancer. Oral Cancer is twice as common in men as in women. In the last past 20 years, the biggest increase in oral cancer has been due to HPV infections. About 7 percent of U.S. adults have oral HPV.
Two of the major risk factors for oral cancer are alcohol consumption and to***co use- including ci******es, pipes, ci**rs and smoke-free chewing to***co. If you smoke and drink, your risk multiplies, since alcohol increases the absorption of the toxic chemicals in to***co. Oral cancer has also been linked to exposure of the sun, a personal or family history of cancer and a diet low in fruits and vegetables. According to the American Dental Association, a quarter of people with oral cancer had no risk factors prior to getting the disease.
Many people do not realize that oral cancer screenings are a routine part of a more extensive exam performed during routine visits to the dentist. Early diagnosis provides the best outlook for oral cancer patients. Visiting the dentist regularly can help detect oral cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. Make sure to talk to your dentist immediately if you notice any of these symptoms. The symptoms of oral cancer include: Sores in the mouth that bleed easily or do not heal, thick or hard spots or lumps, a roughened or crusted area, numbness, pain or tenderness. Other symptoms include difficulty chewing, swallowing or moving your jaw.

March is a month to celebrate the successes and battles women have overcome throughout history. March is known as Women’s History month. We want to celebrate the first women in dentistry.
In 1852, Amalia Assur became the first female dentist in Sweden; she was given special permission from the Royal Board of Health to practice independently as a dentist, despite the fact that the profession was not legally opened to women in Sweden until 1861
In 1855, Emeline Roberts Jones became the first woman to practice dentistry in the United States. When Emeline was 18 years old she married her husband, Daniel, who was a dentist. Emeline was curious and passionate about her husband’s work, and after learning about her secretly filling and extracting several hundred teeth, he hesitantly allowed her assistant him. Daniel believed women had “frail and clumsy fingers,” but her skilled work for hundreds of patients proved him wrong. She began openly working as his assistant in 1855, and then in 1859 she became his partner, out living and out working him at their dental practice.
Dr. Seuss had many works for children that he had his own day - Dr. Seuss Day - to celebrate his birthday on 2nd March. But who is Dr. Seuss? Do you know him? Theodor Seuss Geisel, commonly known by pen name Dr. Seuss, was an American writer, a cartoonist, an animator, a book publisher and an artist as well. Most of children in the world are big fans of his stories, which are absolutely adorable, magical, imaginative and attractive.
Geisel was born on March 2nd, 1904, which was chosen as the Dr. Seuss Day and was also known as the annual date for National Read Across America Day, an initiative on reading aiming to celebrating Seuss’s birthday and held by the national education association.
