Do you ever look at your hair & notice your ends are much lighter than your roots? Color treated AND virgin hair can experience this, and many of my clients ask why 🧐

Your hair cuticle contains a porosity level that changes depending on the health of your hair.
The hair closest to your root is the healthiest on your head. It’s the newest hair and fully nourished by the oils from your scalp. As you work your way down the hair strand, the hair gradually becomes dryer and more damaged. Regardless of whether or not you color or chemically treat your hair, you can experience changes in porosity with everyday wear on your hair. Many examples of this like heat damage, hard metals from well or town water, the sun, hair elastics and yes believe it or not the WEATHER can affect your hair porosity!

The most important thing to remember about this is that EVERYBODY experiences color fading! Artificial AND natural pigmentation fades in the hair strand due to the porosity levels in the hair. If the hair is very porous, it may grab onto color molecules a lot faster, but that also means it’s not able to hold onto those pigment molecules long-term either.

1. Getting regular haircuts prevents your ends from splitting, which is a major factor in the overall health of your hair.

The most popular question asked about this treatment is what the difference is between a Brazilian Blowout & a Keratin Complex treatment

Not to get super sciencey about it but 🧬🤓….
the Brazilian is much healthier, it wears off evenly from the root down to the mids and ends and does not affect the cuticle of the hair, which is basically the core of your hair strands. The Keratin treatment is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a treatment that helps rebuild keratin proteins in the hair cuticle and where for some people with severe damage can benefit from this, many don’t need that kind of a protein boost. It’s so easy for the proteins to overlap and become too heavy which causes breakage. The Brazilian Blowout fades out of the hair evenly, so you can get it done more than once and it won’t overlap. The Brazilian also doesn’t use keratin proteins to rebuild the hair structure it uses a much less potent chemical that doesn’t impact the cuticle!

There is a serious list of all the differences between the two treatments. I am certified in both and i can say i tend to recommend the Brazilian Blowout much more often due to the fact it’s much healthier and doesn’t carry chemicals as harsh to your hair. It’s a treatment that a wider range of people can benefit from as it doesn’t necessarily straighten the hair it just reduces frizz. for my super curly clients i tell them the most it’ll do is soften the curl pattern slightly, but it will come back eventually. the Keratin full on straightens and flattens out the hair strands which not everyone is looking for. Everyone wants some form of volume these days!

- using the right shampoo/conditioner can make all the difference in the world especially when it comes to the longevity of your hair color!

• first off, always always always use a sulfate and silicone free, clean ingredient based formula (all the shampoos and conditioners we have at the salon are all clean and color safe!)

- when in chlorine!! make sure to use a demineralization shampoo + a clarifying to maximize melting all the chemical molecules residing in the hair 🧴🧼
(that’s why your hair always feels gritty after being in the pool, even after a shampoo)

• use a sun hat to protect your scalp! excessive exposure of UV rays on your scalp can cause a sunburn, which can end up giving you a flaky and itchy scalp 🌞

• use a scrunchie and not a hair tie! your hair and scalp will thank you!! hair ties can be really tight and get super tangled in your hair especially if you’re in the water. a scrunchie or a non-tangle band is a lot easier to manage 💛

these small adjustments can save you from seriously dry and unmanageable hair and expensive color corrections! chlorine can strip color right out but can also have chemical reactions to any lightened hair turning it green, so it’s so important to use products that protect your color treatments!

Let’s face it - summer is the best time of year but just like winter, it has its extremes! the sun + heat can affect the way your scalp produces sebum and in some people, one of two things can happen.
1. your scalp produces extra sebum, the natural oils your skin produces making your scalp get super oily soon after a wash
2. there are so many factors that can contribute to seasonal dry scalp, UV rays, chlorine, salt water, and just the heat in general! these all dry your scalp of its natural oils which can cause dandruff or dry scalp. your hair needs certain oils constantly present on the skin to help maintain a healthy scalp & hair follicles.
