When and I decided to move to in Tennessee, we planned to renovate the existing 1850’s log house to live in while we built a new home. When we moved into the cabin, we fell in love with its quirky charm and smaller spaces and decided to make it our permanent residence. Instead of building a bigger home for ourselves, we decided to build The Shed, a larger gathering space we could use when for family visits and community events.Construction of the Shed is now complete, and we are excited to give you a tour. The walk through took a bit longer than we thought, so we decided to break up the tour into a few videos that I will be sharing over the next week or so.A few details from Part 1:• Construction: • steel window with view of the Potterie: • reclaimed wood: • Kitchen faucet, sconces, cabinet hardware • large lantern: • windows and doors: Marvin • Dining table and area rug: • All other antiques and decor: A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated the completion of the Shed with a special event. It was a very meaningful event for and I, filled with gratitude for the opportunity to connect with community. To learn more about our Shed events, subscribe to our newsletter and blog. We as humans have been given an extraordinary gift. Designing and growing a garden is an act of transformation. As I stroll in Bloomerie garden I feel a change in my emotional state. I am uplifted. I suddenly feel connected to this beauty, and I want to share that feeling with everyone…Whether you live on a farm or in a townhome in the city, we all can plant some sort of garden to enjoy. It’s an act of prayer and gratitude.xxBrooke• •
This moment…
In a world filled with an overabundance of “information” this place is where I find my highest truth…
I need not look any further for inspiration or for proof that I am where I am supposed to be.

Every morning at brings a new symphony, each one distinct from the last. The day often begins with the lively chatter of our Guinea fowl, up at dawn to catch the worms and insects crawling through the dewy grass. The roosters soon join in, their crowing a joyful reminder that it's time to start the day.As I open the barn door, Bonnie and Clyde, our barn cats, add their gentle purrs and meows to the morning chorus, blending with the piggy squeals, sheep baas, and goat bleats. While I prepare breakfast for the herd, the animal serenade softens into background music, mingling with the rhythmic ping of pumpkin and sunflower seeds and the deep crunch of chicken feed in my scoop. The ring of the triangle bell signals breakfast, quickly followed by the clatter of dishes and the playful clicks of goats dancing on their wooden shelf. As the barn brigade settles into their meal, I head to the coop, where I’m greeted by a flurry of flapping wings and squawks as our flock eagerly rushes out to enjoy the scattered mealworms and seeds. Each day begins with this symphony of sounds, a melody unique to our farm, setting the tone for the beauty that unfolds. Wishing you a beautiful day filled with nature’s song…xxBrooke. • •
Patina Meadow Animal Barn
When we were preparing for our move to , our priority was to make our animals transition to their new home as smooth as possible. With that in mind, the first structure we built on Patina Meadow was our animal barn. Originally we were hoping to renovate the original barn on our property, but it was too unstable to save.
Instead, we decided to salvage the parts and build a new, sturdier, more efficient barn.
We were also able to locate the new structure so we could see all of our herd from our cabin
The new location also allowed the barn to be connected to the pastures.
Thank you to !
Please feel free to ask questions in the comment section.

A Patina Meadow Animal Update!
Well the Tennessee summer heat and humidity has arrived early at but our animals don’t seem to mind it as much as our human herd does!
All of our animals are too busy enjoying the green pastures to be bothered by a little thick hot air!
I hope you enjoy this visit with our sweet animals.
For those of you who are curious about the salves we use on our donkeys to keep the flies away: we use a combination of and farriers wife belly salve.

5:22am
Days start early and I wouldn’t have it any other way
I pray that I get many more of these sunrises. I’m grateful to get to witness this masterpiece this morning.
Each sunrise is a little different… some include clouds, some are softened by a light mist. Others are crisp and clear.
The golden glow rising above the hills only lasts a few moments, but boy is it worth the price of missing a few more moments in bed…
Wishing you a beautiful day!

Happy Summer…
When designing and creating a garden, patience is a necessity.
I constantly reminding myself to enjoy the journey, appreciate the successes and learn from the failures.
This is our second year , and we are now seeing the gardens take shape.
They are starting to “feel” the way I imagined they would.
I can see in my mind how they will mature, getting fuller and more lush as the years go by.
I look forward to sharing them and their evolution with you.
Happy Summer!

As a child, the term “mother” had a singular meaning for me, encapsulating a role that seemed strictly defined. However, as the years have gone by, I’ve recognized that motherhood, like many aspects of life, encompasses various layers and nuances.
Each of my three children unveils a different facet of my personality, demanding unique ways for me to support them. I’ve also discovered that there are numerous approaches to motherhood. I’ve been privileged to share my life with many nurturing women who have embraced this role for their own children and mine, imparting valuable lessons along the way.
Entering motherhood, I held no expectations of entitlement. I view being a mother as an honor, believing firmly that my children owe me nothing. I refuse to coerce them into maintaining contact or spending time with me; should they ever drift away, I aspire to understand and address the underlying reasons together.
I am not the “perfect mother.” I often resort to humor during serious moments, speak when I should listen, and sometimes become mired in trivial daily details. Despite these imperfections, I persist, showing up and constantly reminding myself of the blessings that come with motherhood.
Thank you to my beautiful children and our sweet animals for letting me be their mom. Every day with you is a new adventure and a chance to learn more about love and life. I’m so grateful for this wild and wonderful journey we’re on together.

The Attic at Patina Meadow
When Steve designed the garage addition to our little cabin, he designed it with a attic space above. Originally, the attic would just be extra storage, but as we began to dream, we imagined this charming space as a place for our children to stay when they came visit.
We clad the building in reclaimed wood, connecting it, visually with the existing cabin. The stairway was fashioned with rustic, hammered steel rods, and a simple wood handrail.
We placed a vintage garden table and a pair of faded wood garden chairs on the small covered porch outside the front door of the attic, the perfect place for our visitors to enjoy the view of our animals grazing in the pasture.
You can visit the inside of our little attic on my blog. Link in my bio.

Our most important blog post to date…
just finished writing a blog post about what we are growing in our Bloomerie and why we do what we do.
She shares some very important information that affects all of us.
Our family has learned the importance of soil health the hard way, through illness and food sensitivities.
Leila’s passion for biodynamic, organic and regenerative farming gives me hope as I drive by so many nearby fields, turning yellow from the use of pesticides.
If you find her words on our blog informative, please share them so we can spread the word of the devastation caused by herbicides.
Together we can create a different world.

As the week passed, our newest family members are getting used to their new home. They now explore with confidence, paying little attention to Blue, our hefty Anatolian, or our barn cats, Bonnie and Clyde.
Sundance, Billy, Butch, and little Annie, deftly wind their way through the flock of guinea fowl and chickens that join them in the orchard.
Soon this area will be off limits to our new charges, as they begin to nibble on the sweet new growth of our fruit trees, but for now their exploration is harmless… and brings joy to us all.

I walk out my front doors. The warmth of the sun touches my face as I take in the view of the blooming tulips. We chose varieties of deep amethyst and merlot to complement the worn wood of our cabin, a big departure from the masses of white roses at the front of our previous home in Ojai.
The air is sweet, an aroma of damp grass and the perfume of my tulips…
As I reach the barn, the scent is more earthy, a combination of hay and our herd. To my nose, this smell is just as intoxicating, filling my mind with happy thoughts of my dear animals. With our move to Patina Meadow in Tennessee, my morning routine in the barn has remained a constant… filling bowls of grain for our boisterous goats to nibble, sharing fresh butternut squash with excited piggies and gentle donkeys, and scattering a feast of mealworms and seeds on the ground for our flock of chickens and guinea fowl to enjoy.
I relish each morning at our farm, knowing that they will not go on forever.
Time marches on, but for today, I will appreciate the squeal of Hank, our piggy, getting a belly rub and the happy grunts of Pepper, our goat, as I rub his neck…

The Whispers of Winter…
In the silence of the snow I hear the whispers that accompany every day…this is an opportunity to sit with these visitors, giving them my “soul” attention.
I used to believe these voices were mine and not the crazy ramblings of the universe.
I’ve learned that I need to question all of the voices before I believe them as truth.
I now cull them, separating the inspiration from the sabotage.
My favorite thoughts arise from my heart rather than my head, a combination of words and feelings that wash over me during the brief enchanted moments as I rub a sweet goats neck or the chubby belly of a piggy or take in the view of the forest dusted in pristine flurries.
Then there are those inklings that spring up quickly from my gut… the ones filled with knowing and insight that guide me along my path if I’m quiet enough to listen. These are the answers to the questions I ask myself and god at night before sleep… “tell me what I need to know” “help me find the right road to take”.
As the snow melts this week, the voices are accompanied by sounds outside myself… the pings of water as the rain melts the frost… small piggy grunts and gleeful goat whines as our animals venture out to the pasture after days of seeking refuge from the cold in our barn…
Returning to my busy life, I take with me the wisdom shared with me during the quiet of the storm and leave the rest to melt away with the snow…

Pause…
As the snow silenced the progress on our construction here at Patina Meadow, I turned my focus on the areas of our sweet cabin that are complete. I organized cabinets that had remained haphazardly stacked since we moved in, dusted off shelves, and refreshed our coffee table with the birds I purchased at the from
Creating small vignettes is a wonderful creative outlet when other areas of life are beyond my control…

Happy New Moment…
As I scrolled through all of the beautiful memories everyone has been sharing these past few days, I asked myself why I was resistant to join in.
This was the answer that floated towards me in my mind…
I’ve never been great about keeping track of passing time. When my kids ask me when they hit certain childhood milestones, they are met with a blank look.
I also have the worst memory, which works out well in some instances (I quickly forget arguments) and sometimes not (I’m awful with faces and names).
Maybe it’s because of my memory failings that I don’t experience my life in years. It all just feels like a cohesive journey. Sure there are events, some wonderful And some challenging, but they happen in moments not years.
I make goals for myself every moment not yearly… things I want to truly experience and appreciate (really listen to what people are saying to me rather than worrying about my response, not imposing my beliefs on anyone else, feel the sun on my face, focus on the small details on my forest walk… the list goes on and on)
Every moment is an opportunity to achieve my goals.
I look at these photos that Steve and I took at an arcade Photo Booth the other day during our vacation with our family.
Clearly time is marching on.
For me, these photos are nudging me to continue focusing on each moments
…not years.
Every walk with Steve, whether it’s at our farm or along the beach… every conversation with one of my children or my mother… every moment in our animal barn, scratching a piggy belly… A reminder to continue to remember (as well as I can 😊) that every moment of this journey is a perfect gift no matter how it appears.
Wishing you all many Happy New Moments…

Patina Meadow Bloomerie update!
Good Chilly morning.
I wanted to pop on to let you all know what’s going on here. This video is truly a behind the scenes look! We are still very much under construction everywhere you look, but we are trying to live as normally as possible through the construction debris 😊
A few items to notice:
• Our Bloomerie steel doors by will be installed this coming week.
• We will be adding storage shelving around the sides of the middle Bloomerie room for all of our garden supplies. A lantern will hang in the middle of the space.
• Our greenhouses are by We added the local stone and the shelving.
• Our citrus trees 🍊 are wintering in the greenhouses.
• I planted carrots 🥕 , beets, fennel, and broccoli 🥦 in this first greenhouse. I’m planning on planting some flowers 🌸 on the other side.
My next video will be an update on the Attic, our little guest room above the new garage.
Until then, I hope you are having a joyous holiday season 😊

A Patina Meadow Log House update!
Although we are still living on a construction site, I thought you all might enjoy a brief update.
As most of you know, and I have decided not to build a new house and plan to live in our 1850’s log house.
In order to stay happily married (😉) we are going to expand our closet and bathroom as well as add a small powder room and mud room. All of this will be located in the space that is now between our new garage and the existing cabin.
As you’ll see in the video, our sauna and cold plunge have been installed behind our home. We have plans to create a lovely outside space. I’ll share more details soon about the gardens as well as these new interior spaces !
Thank you to and our wonderful farm team Dan Meeks, .carpenter11 for helping us create Patina Meadow!
