We had such a beautiful day this week that we decided to go out on the porch! 🌞😎 Lots of smiles, laughter and dancing as we listened to our favorite tunes!

Art class with Lindsey is in session! Our residents got to showcase their creativity by painting and designing flowers. 🌸💮🌻🌼 Once painted and dried, Lindsey hung and arranged the flowers to create a beautiful bouquet of flowers in a vase!

For a little over a month, The Lantern collected school supplies for our local school, Franklin Elementary! 🏫🖍️✏️ We received a great amount of donations that we were able to give back to students and teachers to help bring in the new school year. Thank you to all of our families, staff and vendors who donated!

Corkey Miller, winner of the 2023 Morning Pointe Foundation Seniors Got Talent show in Knoxville, recently had the chance to shine and share her comedy routine on America's Got Talent! She even got four thumbs-up from the judges after her official audition. 👍

While she was not chosen to advance, Morning Pointe is very proud of Corkey and delighted that the AGT showrunners discovered her at Morning Pointe Seniors Got Talent. You never know what can happen at SGT! 🤩

“My experience with ‘America’s Got Talent’ was amazing,” Corkey shared with us. “If you’re trying to do a particular thing, there’s no bigger stage. They only picked 44 people [to advance]. I didn’t make the cut, and that’s fine. That doesn’t hurt my feelings. The fact that they aired me on television – that was a gift.” 📺

We haven’t seen the last of Corkey. Since appearing on the hit TV show, she has had several offers from other organizations to do comedy and act. This fall, she has a comedy and storytelling engagement at a fundraiser for the Shriners in her hometown.

“Acting is my one true love that I never had courage to do,” Corkey said. “I am going to let God lead me wherever He is going to lead me. He knows exactly where I need to be.” ❤️

Corkey is planning to open the Morning Pointe Foundation’s Knoxville show on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at The Bijou Theatre. 🌟

A meal made for champions! With the Olympic rings in mind, our residents made their own Olympic-inspired pizzas for us to enjoy for snack! 🍕

WE ARE HEADED TO PARIS! 🇫🇷🌍

As our residents began to explore the country of France for our virtual travel program, they were given a challenging yet fun craft. We asked our residents, “What three items would you pack in your suitcase to Paris?” 💼 For some of our residents, this question was easy to answer. For others, it was more difficult to narrow down their choices. All in all, our residents are ready for our trip to the beautiful country of France!

We kicked off our school day activities with a cool science experiment! Our residents conducted an experiment where we answered this question, “What can you put on an apple to keep it from turning brown?” 🍎 From that question, our residents formed a hypothesis on which solution they thought would keep our apple slices from turning brown. Upon conclusion, we discovered that water and lemon juice kept our apple slices from turning brown but lemon juice did a better job! 🍋

We started out the month of August celebrating Ralph and Martha’s 59th wedding anniversary! 💍 They are such a lovely couple, and we were so elated to celebrate this special day with them. Real love stories never have endings! ❤️

Class is in session at Morning Pointe Senior Living! 📚✏️ For August, we're diving into "School Days, School Days" with a syllabus full of fun activities, nostalgic treats, and lessons in laughter! 🎒✨

We want to send a HUGE shoutout to all of our July birthdays here at The Lantern! We had so many residents birthdays this past month that we decided to have a party... with lots of cake and fresh coffee to wash it all down! 🎂🥳🎉

For our gardening group craft, we decided to create our very own mini gardens! Using various dried flowers and contact paper, our residents were able to make different designs for us to display in our garden area! 🌱

Our residents were given a craft to create their own version of a panda bear. 🐼 Dennis was very proud of how his bear turned out!

We did! 🤩 We are so proud of Corkey and delighted that the AGT showrunners discovered her through her win at the 2023 Morning Pointe Foundation's Seniors Got Talent Knoxville show. It just goes to show you never know what can happen at SGT!

We had the chance to talk with Corkey herself, and here is what she had to say about her experience, "I keep pinching myself," said Miller, age 63. "There was so much talent there, and I kept telling myself, 'How's this little old lady going to compete with any of that?' I feel like I won the lottery, and I've never won anything in my entire life except for a Chad Atkins record when I was in the third grade."

Miller added to the Foundation, "Thank you for giving me the start that I needed, the courage to go forward. Everybody has a hidden dream that we had when we were a kid, and then we grow up, and we get in the real world and our job and our families and all that, and we suppress that dream because it doesn't seem like the mature thing to do. I'm saying, 'Heck with maturity - go for the dream!' It's not too late."

We had such a great turn out at our meet and greet, A Tropical Getaway! 🐠🏖️ Our residents, family and venders got the opportunity to meet our new team of directors while enjoying some great food and music. What a great way to introduce The Lantern team!

This month, for Morning Pointe in Motion, we are learning about Tokyo, Japan! This week, we learned that cherry blossom trees usually bloom during the spring months, March and April, in Tokyo. 🌸 We decided to recreate this beautiful tree as an art craft for the week! 🖌️

In 2020, two of our Chattanooga campuses were hit by a tornado, with no residents harmed. Associates at all levels stepped in to provide for residents' immediate and long-term needs. ❤️

We train our associates for emergencies and develop partnerships with community support organizations. We are also committed to communicating with family members quickly should any emergency occur. 🤝
